Historia
Inara Erickson is exploring her deceased aunt's island estate when she finds an elaborately stitched piece of fabric hidden in the house. As she peels back layer upon layer of the secrets it holds, Inara's life becomes interwoven with that of Mei Lein, a young Chinese girl mysteriously driven from her home a century before. Through the stories Mei Lein tells in silk, Inara uncovers a tragic truth that will shake her family to its core - and force her to make an impossible choice.

Well-written, well-researched
Revisado: 10-01-17
this is a well-written well-researched historical fiction based on the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act in America and the resultant treatment of the Chinese told in away that goes between modern day and the 1880s and follows the story of a fictional character who while is of Chinese descent was born in America. I can recommend it highly for adult readers. while there is only mild infrequent profanity and no graphic sex in dealing with the Chinese beliefs I felt that it showed suicide in a positive light. Not that the author is promoting it but I just felt I needed to voice that caution I felt as I listened to it

All good things, even laughter and orange marmalade cake, must come to an end. And in Light from Heaven, the long-anticipated final volume in the phenomenally successful Mitford Years series, Karon deftly ties up all the loose ends of Father Timothy Kavanagh's deeply affecting life.

exceptional story and narration
Revisado: 02-24-16
I have loved the whole Mitford series and the narrator is simply awesome! I don't think I've ever had a narrator that is so absolutely perfect for a series than this one!

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Any additional comments?
If I would have known how much cussing is in the book I would have not purchased it. I will probably not ever listen to it again for that reason.

Historia
Mild-mannered Walter Mitty is a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. This well-known and beloved tale has launched its famous protagonist into the cultural lexicon, warranting his inclusion in English-language dictionaries and countless anthologies. Stiller's imaginative performance as Mitty is the perfect re-introduction to the classic character and a great preface to the upcoming film, for longtime fans and new listeners alike.

So depressing
Revisado: 02-28-14
Did Free: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty inspire you to do anything?
Not treat my spouse with utter contempt so he had to enter a fantasy world to escape because his life was so regimented and controlled

Historia
Eliza Harris, a slave whose child is to be sold, escapes her beloved home on the Shelby plantation in Kentucky and heads North, eluding the hired slave catchers. Aided by the underground railroad, Quakers, and others opposed to the Fugitive Slave Act, Eliza, her son, and her husband George run toward Canada. As the Harrises flee to freedom, another slave, Uncle Tom, is sent "down the river" for sale. Too loyal to abuse his master's trust, too Christian to rebel, Tom wrenches himself from his family.

A Must read, though not an easy "Read"
Revisado: 02-28-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
First let me say the narration was excellent. The book itself is a classic and I'm sorry it took me until I was 52 to complete this book. It should be required reading in every High School and every person needs to read this book that must have rocked it's world when it was published.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Uncle Tom- no question. What a man! What faith. What endurance under unjust suffering
What does Buck Schirner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
There is just something about his voice that is very enjoyable. He does change his voice for each character but it is subtle though you come to recognize it. He is a quality narrator and I just finished another book he narrated and it was equally as well done.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I had to stop listening for a while and several different times just because what the main characters went through and they seemed so real and you entered their suffering

Historia
Jack Chisholm is 'the people's pastor.' He leads a devoted and growing mega church, has several best-selling books, and a memorable slogan, 'We have got to do better.' Jack knows how to preach, and he understands how to chastise people into performing. What he doesn't know is anything about grace. This year, when it comes time for the Christmas sermon, the congregation at Grace Cathedral will look to the pulpit, and Jack will not be there. Of course, they will have seen plenty of him already - on the news.

Great Narrator
Revisado: 01-28-14
Where does The Prodigal rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It was up there in the top five of all the audiobooks I've listened to. The narrator may have been the very top narrator I've listened to. He did a great job with different voices. And the voice of the main character was just so soothing I could listen to it forever.
The book itself was well done also. It was a modern retelling of the Prodigal son. And it also helped us look at Christian celebrity and shame. It was well worth my time
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jack's father was my favorite character. I don't want to give anything away but I just love how he responded to his son during the scandal
What does Daniel Butler bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Oh my goodness he was an excellent narrator! I love the different voices that he used and there was just something about his voice that was so soothing that I could just listen to it forever
Who was the most memorable character of The Prodigal and why?
Well I already said that Jack's father was my favorite character. The next would probably be Father Frank. I love how he met people where they were. Even if it was the local bar. And he was so open about his own failings.
