Great books- don’t like new narrator
Revisado: 07-15-24
The books are as entertaining as ever, but this is the second book I’ve listened to with the new narrator. While I can get used to the characters being voiced differently, this narrator mixes up accents all the time. Luty Belle is supposed to have an American accent but often sounds Irish. Mrs. Jeffries sounds different any time her character speaks more than a sentence or two. The narrator should practice some more before recording I don’t think I can listen to another one with this narrator..

A balanced account of game changes, conflicts and ambitions. The fall from popular grace of the previously adulated brother of the heir to the British throne as a consequence of his marriage to a beautiful and dynamic Hollywood starlet of colour makes for fascinating listening in best-selling royal author Lady Colin Campbell's balanced account. Lady Colin knows her royal history and psychology, and as the first seven years of her adult life were spent in the USA, she has a foot in both the American and British camps.

Numerous stories repeated that have since been found to be inaccurate.i can’t recommend this book to anyone.- Sussex fans will be disappointed and angry, Americans will be insulted, and even detractors of , H&M will be suspect at the vitriol pointed their way by the author.

The narrator was fantastic for this book. The story was good- a little complex at times, and lots of people to keep track of. But the ending was well done. In all, a good mystery.

Historia
Richard Nixon opens with young navy lieutenant "Nick" Nixon returning from the Pacific and setting his cap at Congress, an idealistic dreamer seeking to build a better world. Yet amid the turns of that now legendary 1946 campaign, Nixon's finer attributes quickly gave way to unapologetic ruthlessness. It is a stunning overture to John A. Farrell's magisterial portrait of a man who embodied postwar American cynicism.

I didn’t think I’d ever want to listen to 22 hours about Richard Nixon- but found this book fascinating. A man who started out with solid values turned into a “crook” as a result of an increasing lack of self esteem that eventually turned to paranoia. I never knew all the good he did while President though- definitely worth the listen.

This novel about elderly folks in a care home in Sweden is delightful. While the story doesn’t translate perfectly from Swedish, it was narrated well and made me laugh.

Izzy raises some eyebrows when she rents the apartment above her shop to Angie Archer, whose reputation for loose behavior and a quick temper has made her unpopular with many locals. A friend had recommended this series, but after listening for an hour I had to stop. The characters all seem the same- hard to tell them apart, and the narrator has some good qualities, but mispronounced words like “skein” and “ Gloucester”. I gave up.

Good plot, meh execution
Revisado: 03-18-23
The storyline was very good- I didn’t guess who did it… but the writing is a bit painful at times- some unnecessary repetition, stating the obvious, and the characters didn’t really develop. I doubt I will listen to another in this series.

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.
