Historia
In Regency England, Mrs. Thorne's School for Young Ladies is about to close due to the death of young Clarissa's mother a year ago. This leaves 18-year-old Clarissa Thorne and her three schoolmistress friends no option but to return to the bosoms of their families as despised 'poor relations' - at everyone's beck and call for all their lives. But Clarissa has just inherited Ashcroft, a large, crumbling estate, and she offers her companions an escape - to run away with her to a life of independence and adventure.

nice and light
Revisado: 02-01-21
Light regency romance - a nice escape book. The description says “hilarious events” - yeah, not so much. However, it was a charming book and the narration was good.

still good...

I really do like these time traveling taxman books. The main character is so very human and just like so many people you meet in real life. Narration was good; very suited to the story and character.

paranormal aspect is good
Revisado: 02-01-21
I am sorry to say that I listened to this a while ago and forgot to leave a review. I liked the paranormal aspect of it - very well done. I don’t think the cover (beefcake cop) suits the story. I don’t remember the details fo the narration - which probably means it was good!

Historia
A century ago, the World Government sold it as "Peace on Earth." All they did was convince the citizens of the world to download their minds into the Internet, leaving their bodies floating in stasis tanks. Now Sergeant First Class (Ret.) Scott Douglas was free to read a book in peace, without having to listen to the hippies and their endless whining. His only job was to walk through the stasis tanks once a day and check for problems. Then the Internet went down. Without it regulating their brains, humanity would be dead in a matter of days. It was up to Scott to save the hippies, even if all they did was complain.

entertaining
Revisado: 02-01-21
I listened to The Forever Sleep in one session (it’s a short story). Very engaging. The narration was fine and the story spun out its backstory in a good way. Although a somewhat heavy handed commentary on online device use, it was a good listen and I recommend it.

Historia
Lucille Abbey runs her London secretarial agency with utmost efficiency. When, therefore, a certain Professor Hallam rejects three girls sent by her to apply for the post of his secretary and they each pronounce him "impossible", Lucille herself sets out to interview the Professor at his home in Hampshire. He is, she finds, eccentric—even impossible; but he represents a challenge and, what is more, an excuse to delay what promises to be a trying holiday in Paris. She stays on to tame and to organize him—a less formidable task than she had imagined; in fact, she grows fond of him.

thoroughly enjoyable
Revisado: 10-12-20
This was a good one. I am a fan of the narrator Helen Taylor (and, in the interest of full disclosure we have met in person and I like her) and she never disappoints.
I don't know exactly when this book is set but it sounds like the 50s or 60s. There is a curmudgeonly professor and an independent business woman ... and it works.
I got a promotional credit for this book (I think).

Historia
A duke, a spinster, a faux engagement; what could possibly go wrong? For four seasons Lady Eunice was quite content with the mantle of wallflower. Bespectacled, frumpy, and put-upon by her overbearing mother, all she really wished to do was vanish from London once she came of age to inherit her fortune. The sudden reappearance of her childhood sweetheart, the dashing Theodore Belhurst, soon changes her mind, and Lady Eunice decides that she does wish to wed after all.

pleasant regency romance
Revisado: 10-12-20
This was a nice regency romance and one of the best duet narrations I have heard. The book itself had a few too many (IMHO) modern takes on issues such as women's rights/independence, child abuse, etc - yes, I know those things all existed but the take on them by all the main characters was more modern than period.
Romance was nicely developed and characters were engaging.

Three Teen Choice Awards, one Emmy nomination, and several Maxim covers later, Maizie Albright was an ex-teen star, stuck in reality show hell, and standing before a California judge. She has one chance for a new life: return home to Black Pine, Georgia, and get a job that has nothing to do with show business. So why not become a private detective - the person she played during the happiest days of her life?

Good - enjoyed it
Revisado: 07-19-20
This was a cute story, well-narrated. Masie is trying to escape her tabloid past but it keeps following her as she tries to become a private investigator by apprenticing to a private investigator in her old home town. Her Hollywood (shallow?) life has given her a real knowledge of clothing designers and cutsie expressions - both of which she uses a lot (perhaps just a bit too much for my taste, but not a big deal). The pronunciation of Julio with a J really threw me but eventually I picked up that he was Italian so assume the Italian pronounce it with a J rather than the Y sound of Spanish. The mystery was good and the characters interesting. A good listen all in all but not, to be honest, riveting. I received a promotional code for this book.

Oddly likeable main character
Revisado: 04-16-20
The main character is an egotistical jerk for at least the first third of the book. And yet, you like him, or ... at least want to see what happens to him ,,,for which I give a lot of credit to the writer. Takes talent to do that. Great and believable character growth for him.
Mixed review of the narrator: for the main character - just great. As the narrator voice, he was a bit over the top for my tastes. Unfortunately, there were also several mispronunciations (usually misplaced syllable stress) that were distracting.
I used a promotional code and received this audiobook at no cost to me.
