Historia
Warning: You may have a huge, invisible spider living in your skull. This is not a metaphor. You will dismiss this as ridiculous fearmongering. Dismissing things as ridiculous fearmongering is, in fact, the first symptom of parasitic spider infection - the creature secretes a chemical into the brain to stimulate skepticism, in order to prevent you from seeking a cure. That’s just as well, since the “cure” involves learning what a chain saw tastes like. You can’t feel the spider, because it controls your nerve endings.

I sometimes pick books because of the title
Revisado: 07-08-24
This had such a great title that I thought I would give it a try. It was a surprisingly interesting book. Interesting enough that I’m now reading the next book in the series. It’s a great story full of fun and action and interesting twists and turns and government conspiracies. I didn’t give it a 5 because it isn’t in my type of books I normally read. That’s just personal preference.

In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

This was an enjoyable listen regarding the life of a gentleman in Russia under house arrest in a nice hotel. I read this before I start watching a movie series based on the book.

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Revisado: 12-07-23
While being an independent that leans heavily towards the left, I was grateful that this book came out. The fact that it is well written and leaves out very little. I think books like these should be taught in the history classes of our youth. It is so important for them to hear the facts about what happened on January 6th instead of the lies that have been spread about. I fear for the next elections and what might happen. The previous Trump presidency took us so far backwards on so many things. I cannot imagine what 4 more years would be like. Thank you Liz Chaney for the book.

A fun listen to an interesting story
Revisado: 10-25-22
Witch is when it all began is a sweet story that is enhanced by an enjoyable reading. I loved the various voices used by Hannah Platt. This is a good book to escape in, it is not serious or thought provoking, it is just fun. It would be a great book to listen to with your children. I can’t wait to listen to the next book

I thoughtful and touching book
Revisado: 09-09-21
This is a beautiful book telling a story of the love between two brothers, One who tragically died too soon and gets his brother to fulfill his bucket list. It is full of stories of the amazing tasks that was waiting for him, Royd swallows his fears or embarrassment to complete the tasks. It also takes you through the beauty and exciting opportunities that New Zealand has to offer. Although there was some sad, emotional parts, I think you will enjoy this book.

sweet stories from a vet
Revisado: 11-02-20
This is a great book to pick up when you only have a little time to read, each chapter is a story about a single case. It is a James Harriet type of book with families and the love for their pets.

It has been boarded up for decades, but now the new owner has made an incredible discovery: the belongings of Japanese families, left when they were rounded up and sent to internment camps during World War II. As Henry looks on, the owner opens a Japanese parasol.

Very interesting story, well written and non-judgemental during an embarrassing time in the US. it weaves a beautiful love story into a story of the Japanese internment and the racial conflict between the Chinese and the Japanese.

very real story
Revisado: 10-03-19
This book should be on the school reading list. it shows how vulnerable we all are, even the popular kids. that just because someone is different they shouldn't be treated that way. sometimes we all have been one thought away from suicide. Don't let it happen to the different kid in your class.
