4th book of a very engaging series

Lois Mcmaster Bujold is one of my favorite authors, so I am clearly biased. I want more stories from this post apocalyptic world. Lakewalkers are quasi native American and Farmers are early settlers. All with a unique fantasy twist. How can people mend the rift. How can cooperation achieve a better future. I feel inspired to be a better person with this series and I hope you enjoy it also.

mystery and space drama

This whole series is delightful. I particularly like her insight in how relationships work. Grover Gardner is my favorite narrator. This is probably the 10th time I have listened to this story. I try other authors and when I get tired poorly written fiction, I come back to Lois Mcmaster Bujold for a good dose of great fiction.

This is first class fantasy fiction. This entire series is first class. I would recommend this series to even occasional readers, as it would spark a love of reading. Well done.

a good tale marred by melodrama

I think I would have liked printed book much better. The narrator. made. the. book. so. whiny. and. choppy. At least this book wasn't as bad as the second book. This author has many really good books and I would recommend them, but this series I could only recommend in print.

Maria doesn't believe in glass ceilings. Maria inspires women to break loose from getting by to opening a new world of possibilities. Her story and message speak from the heart. She teaches us to reach beyond our sphere and bring people in to aid us in achieving our goals. If you need a dose of positive messaging to help you transform your life, you have found the right book.

I hate stories with rape scenes dragged out

The rest of the story was slow, was listening on fast forward. Was driving during offending passage so I was held captive.

well written

Starts pretty dark, but was necessary to understand the main characters. Some sex scenes but only enough detail to make a point, not gooey TMI. Some violence but no gore, not gratuitous. Not sure I would want my 12 year old to read it, but perfect for 15. Good lessons. Good message.

A story well told

I like the characters, they each have a story. Great world building. Usually I like one reader, but this is very well performed by all involved. I recommend this story and all the books from this author.

hard to like a book that has no likeable female characters

If all the characters had been male it would be a great book and a great performance. But the author clearly doesn't like women and the performer couldn't overcome bad dialog. I finished the whole series and it doesn't get better. To be fair I listened to the first book twice to see if it improved on a second listen but instead it was worse on second airing. The series must not be done because it ends in cliff hanger, thankfully by the end there was only one character left to like. Unfollowing this author.
