Historia
England, May 1536. Anne Boleyn is dead, decapitated in the space of a heartbeat by a hired French executioner. As her remains are bundled into oblivion, Thomas Cromwell breakfasts with the victors. The blacksmith's son from Putney emerges from the spring's bloodbath to continue his climb to power and wealth, while his formidable master, Henry VIII, settles to short-lived happiness with his third queen. Cromwell is a man with only his wits to rely on; he has no great family to back him, no private army.

Historia
Grace Lisa Vandenburg counts - the letters in her name (19); the steps she takes every morning to the local café (920); the number of poppy seeds on her slice of orange cake, which dictates the number of bites she'll take to finish it. Grace counts everything, because numbers hold the world together. And she needs to keep an eye on how they're doing.

Very Melbourne, but still good
Revisado: 06-12-09
I had this book on my Wish List for over 7 months, and kept avoiding it. I finally took the plunge this month, and can safely say I wish I hadn't taken so long. The story is unmistakenly Australian and very quirky. This should not put off non-Australian listeners as the author draws credible and interesting characters. It is also a very funny book. Not laugh out loud funny, but nonetheless infused with subtle wit.
A very good first novel from Toni Jordan. Yes there is a romantic threat in the story, but it doesn't dominate or distract. It is one of the many themes running through the book.
The narrator is also very competent. This is the first time I have listened to this narrator perform a contemporary novel. The previous listening have been for historical novels, and I think she performs better in this book.
If you like your humour subtle, and your characters a bit eccentric, this is a good listen. Especially if you live in Melbourne Australia, you will enjoy the quintessential Melbournisk touches.

Historia
Grace is the church's great distinctive. It's the one thing the world cannot duplicate, and the one thing it craves above all else - for only grace can bring hope and transformation to a jaded world. In What's So Amazing About Grace?, award-winning author Philip Yancey explores grace at street level. If grace is God's love for the undeserving, he asks, then what does it look like in action? And if Christians are its sole dispensers, then how are we doing at lavishing grace on a world that knows far more of cruelty and unforgiveness than it does of mercy?

Life changing - if you dare
Revisado: 02-02-07
I haven't finished listening to the book yet, but felt compelled to write a review. Through his clear exegesis of Biblical references and modern day examples, Philip Yancey holds a scary mirror. Unless you want to have a paradigm shift in how you regard Grace, don't bother to read it. If you are prepared to have a life changing wake up call, then make it your very next read.

Mills & Boon Disappointment
Revisado: 10-02-06
I have downloaded "Envy", "Chill Factor", "The Alibi" from Sandra Brown. They all have a flavour of romance, but what sets them apart is the interesting storyline, and the suspense/thriller. This book, "Thursday's Child" was unadulterated romance. Very skimpy storyline, which stretched credibility.
If you like a romance of the Mills & Boon genre with descriptive sex, you will enjoy this book. If, like me, you were expecting an interesting story, with the romance as a minor plot line, you will be disappointed.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

Must read!
Revisado: 05-15-06
This book is a "must read" for all the reasons other reviewers have mentioned. Just know that in the 4 years I have been a subscriber of Audible this is the first time I have made an effort to write a review. This book is compelling, engaging, original, well written and well read by the author. It has drama, humour, tragedy, hope and suspense. Do not wait for the movie - download it now and enjoy one of the most original works of fiction you will "read". A true masterpiece!
