Historia
Professor Theo Cray is trained to see patterns where others see chaos. So when mutilated bodies found deep in the Montana woods leave the cops searching blindly for clues, Theo sees something they missed. Something unnatural. Something only he can stop. As a computational biologist, Theo is more familiar with digital code and microbes than the dark arts of forensic sleuthing.

Professor vs. Police Procedures
Revisado: 05-09-25
Plot had my head jumping to "I know what'll happen" keep reading/skip ahead decisions. I kept on and suggest you do as well. The Professor take for what to do was best part of the tale. No red herring's for reader, no Just-in-Time twists that wouldn't happen. Fair plot tha respects the reader, yet is exciting and creates empathy. Good story, well told, fun read.

More tension and action than many "Ring of Fires"
Revisado: 04-19-25
More of the previous Ring of Fire titles': quality time shifting, patient examination of class distinction motives, and both 15th and 21st century mind-sets. The front side has a fair amount of turncoats, backstabbers, fighters, lovers, and strategic action. The back half of this one was a bit more edge of my seat worry and concerns about fates of favored characters. No spoilers, for that's what makes it a very good read to listen to!
Mr. Guidall is one of my personal top-three narrators. This book is IMO, a good listen for anyone who has enjoyed a Ring of Fire series audiobook.

Plot mechanics has some holes and hiccups. Ok, no worries. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS GOOD! Characters human and not, vocal acting, and fascinating story solutions to plot conundrums all 1st rate. The denemough was satisfying yet still an inducement to get the series.

Pace was right for adventure thriller. Black hats were obvious targets. White hats turned a bit gray as the story went on. Well evolved ending brushed a lot of that hat dust off.

Time well spent.
Revisado: 10-17-24
The placement of the story, at the meeting of the Old West and the New, gave extra texture beyond an ordinary western tale. Guidall's narration is always a blessing on top of typical action and heroic choices. Well written and the time was definitely well spent.

Good addition to living this multidimensional tale
Revisado: 10-13-24
My listen-reading of this long-form story is great fun!
As is now expected, the story has small side-tracks or singlet episodes that don't always add to the central plot. It's occurred to me that perhaps there simply is no central plot. There are three larger plots at least. When a singlet pops up and does not (so far anyways) dovetail into one of those more major-ish plots, it causes me to frown. I want more and faster of what I assume is the REAL story.
Putting my own foolish paradigm aside, the tone, characters, somewhat historical, and brilliantly narrated novels are greatly entertaining. Fortunately, there are many volumes still ahead of me.
If only I can find some more book credits...

Great narrator. Adequate story.
Revisado: 09-16-24
Good narrator. His skill set is outstanding. Consistent and creative voices for each character. Women's voices were done unusually well for a male voice. Story was simple. No big surprises. Some occasional tension. A once-read, once is enough title. Main characters were interesting, storyline not so much. Author has written several that I enjoyed with enthusiasm. I'll continue with him by Kindle & Audible.

Historia
New York Times best-selling author Eric Flint has received glowing critical praise for his Ring of Fire alternate history series. In this first installment, a West Virginia town is transported from the year 2000 to 1631 Germany at the height of the Thirty Years’ War. Thrust into conflict, the town residents must also contend with moral issues such as who should be considered a citizen.

Do not skip because it sounds too Fantasy
Revisado: 09-14-24
I have been scouring and buying George Guidall narratives for over ten years. He is one of my top 3 readers. I saw this title in my searches but did not select. I thought it sounded too "Fantasy" genre. I've not finished one of those as yet. Well, the narrator is why I bought this one despite that paradigm. It lie unopened for a long time. I feared I'd be disappointed and ticked at myself about the purchase. Nope! I'm only ticked because I waited so long.
The listening of this story was a true pleasure. The story is deep enough to become involved and to care about the characters. It is funny, exciting, and historically interesting. The author's marriage of life in that era mixed with perspectives from today is great fun. It is an 'you are there' experience of what needs doing to adapt a modern-day American city into an small state. All this in a time travel country circa 1632. A great concept to build this series. No wonder there were so many reader stars in Audible.
Mr. Guidall becoming so many different folks is truly amazing. He is always a listening treat but outdoes himself with this story. There are lots of characters to meet and several sub-stories to follow. For the entire 20-hour book, I had to rewind and re-listen to only a single scene - when I'd missed who was speaking. I will be spending future credits on this series regularly. My highest recommendation!
