Historia
Mankind has a distinct advantage over other terrestrial species: we talk to one another. But how did we acquire the most advanced form of communication on Earth? Daniel L. Everett, a "bombshell" linguist and "instant folk hero" (Tom Wolfe, Harper's), provides in this sweeping history a comprehensive examination of the evolutionary story of language, from the earliest speaking attempts by hominids to the more than 7,000 languages that exist today.

What is the nature of the material world? How does it work? What is the universe and how was it formed? What is life? Where do we come from and how did we evolve? How and why do we think? What does it mean to be human? How do we know? There are many different versions of our creation story. This book tells the version according to modern science. It is a unique account, starting at the Big Bang and travelling right up to the emergence of humans as conscious intelligent beings, 13.8 billion years later.

Poor narration made it a hard book to follow
Revisado: 09-04-17
Overall the content of the book was decent. I found there were a few points at the end of the book regarding the continuation of Human evolution I didn't fully agree with, in that in the last 10k years, my views are more along the lines of mutation and some artificial selection, in that there is a decreasing degree of natural selection pressure.
Beyond that I found the book in audiobook format really hard to stick with because of the poor quality of the narrator. With long poorly placed pauses, strange and maybe incorrectly pronounced words, and even points where the wrong inflection was used, making it harder to get the author's point. There were even a small number of attempts at humor being wasted with poor narration.
In closing I would say the book is a good read in text format for those very interested in the biology of life, other the level of detail being 1 maybe 2 steps past an 101 introduction level. Some of the details on chemistry, reactions and molecules also being easier to understand and track in text over audio form.

Historia
In the near future, political tensions between the United States and China are at an all-time high. Then a catastrophic explosion on the moon cleaves a vast gash in the lunar surface, and the massive electromagnetic pulse it unleashes obliterates Earth's electrical infrastructure. To plumb the depths of the newly created lunar fissure and excavate the source of the power surge, the feuding nations are forced to cooperate on a high-risk mission to return mankind to the moon.

Not bad, but could have been a lot better
Revisado: 12-08-16
Overall the premise of the story was interesting.. what they find on the Moon and its meaning is all a very interesting story plot. I seem to run into two main issues with this book.
1.) The scientific inaccuracies are a bit irritating, i am an avid science fiction reader and generally grant the writer generous leeway, but when they write something like: when the ship passed over to the side of the moon that never see's the sunlight... i just cringe.
2.) The story seems to be overwritten.. im not sure how best to explain it but there are seemingly major plot lines that ultimately serve little purpose to enrich the story. its overly complicated. Its hard to explain without ruining the story.. But i will say that certain small items could have been expanded upon to be much better and some large plot items could be deleted entirely and it wouldn't impact the story at all. its almost like there is a science fiction story is being told with CNN playing int he background and as the story teller goes to the bathroom or to get a drink, the hot CNN news topics become part of the story
I dont know anything about the author(s) but it seems like the first attempt at science fiction.. there was real potential for a great story, and much of it was pretty good, but it could have been great. I would also add that, especially in science fiction, please do the research, talking about the dark side of the moon as if it was actually always dark is just lazy, but getting into topics of quantum mechanics does require the use of at least some accurate science to give the fiction a viable basis to work from.
In closing would i recommend this book:
Yea, probably, get it if its on sale, or if you have a credit you need to burn, and keep your expectations in check going in.

Historia
With his characteristic eyebrow-raising behavior, Richard P. Feynman once provoked the wife of a Princeton dean to remark, "Surely you're joking, Mr. Feynman!" But the many scientific and personal achievements of this Nobel Prize-winning physicist are no laughing matter. Here, woven with his scintillating views on modern science, Feynman relates the defining moments of his accomplished life.

Good stories but narration was hard to sit through
Revisado: 10-20-16
I would say that i highly prefer "The Pleasure of Finding Things Out", as that collection of Feynman stories was narrator by Sean Runnette, who has the Feynman Persona and sound down solid. Many of the stories in this book actually sounded cheesy, especially in the beginning but it was because of the narration. If i would stop and rethink of the story being told the way Feynman would, it settled a lot better with me.
There really is a good set of stories, but the narration makes them hard to bare.
I have the other book narrator by Raymond Todd, i almost wish i wouldn't have got it.

great stories and great narrator
Revisado: 10-03-16
I swear i checked at least twice to see who narrated the book, the narrator actually sounds like Dr Feynman.. and not just in tone/sound, but even the way he spoke. He used a personality which really sounded like it was him, the inflection and attitude and everything.
This really made all the difference for me, because it was like hearing storied from Dr Feynman, many new stories to me that i never heard, it was like hearing him speak again which was very nice.
Of course the collection of stories are great, some better than others, all good many are pretty funny. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys Richard Feynman stories.

I loved the mars trilogy so much i have read them all twice. This was no where as close to as good. The main protagonist just seems like a whiny teenage girl and very two dimensional. There were parts that the real KSR from the mars trilogy shown through and parts where there was a spark of life in the story but just as quickly as it came it was gone. I was riveted by Mars.. I struggled almost all the way through this.

confusing to start but decent story once going
Revisado: 01-15-16
Overall i found the format of the story to be very hard to grasp. its written from the perspective of different people but not sequentially. so to give an example without spoilers, its like writing from person 1's perspective over the course of 2 years, then writing from person 2's perspective for 5 years, then person 3 for 4 years.
so at one point you are many years into the stay on mars then snapped back many years.
i also found it very confusing that the book starts off with a 'scene' that basically takes place MUCH later int he book.
i had to listen to the first few chapters a couple times to really let the story form in my minds eye. Once you get past the writing style which is not really my cup of tea, the story is actually not too bad. I was hoping for a decent hard science fiction book, but found that while it had its moments it wasn't was i was hoping for. its not really 'magical' or fantasy science by any means, but there are technologies just put in the story with little info about them.
Overall i have enjoyed the book now that im almost done with it but it was a hard read. i almost quit on it a couple times, but im glad i kept pushing through.
Im still undecided as to if i will continue with the series.
