Historia
Gianna Mäkinen has been in love with her best friend Riley Beckett for her entire adult life. She'd long accepted that her place in life was Riley's best friend, and that was okay. It was more than okay. She never imagined that she would have the opportunity to confess her love to Riley, to marry her, to have a herd of children with her. Riley always knew she'd be building her life with Gianna, but she never knew it would be this kind of life. This all-consuming, passionate, together life.

Wonderful conclusion/addition
Revisado: 03-13-25
I loved On the Same Page, and it was wonderful to revisit the characters here. Haley Cass is a top notch romance author and Lori Prince is one of my (if not my actual) favorite narrators. The combination of them collaborating together has produced some of my all time favorite books.

For the first time, Regan Gallagher is facing the world without her best friend by her side—no, Sutton isn't dead but she is in Rome, following her dreams. And Regan really is thrilled for her. Left to her own devices, she's doing . . . fine. Oh, except for the fact that her new roommate, Emma Bordeaux, has hated Regan since the literal day they'd met two years ago. Sure, most of their interactions end in disaster and Regan is the root cause, but they are all accidents! She'll win Emma over though; she's determined to make this living arrangement work come hell or high water.

Haley Cass and Lori Prince is a stellar combo
Revisado: 03-06-25
I loved this when I first read it, and Lori Prince’s narration only made me love it even more. Haley Cass has long become a must read author for me, and Lori Prince equally has become my favorite narrator. The combination of the two of them collaborating has given me some of my absolute favorite books. I hope they work together on everything forever.
Regan was a little much for me in her other appearances in Those Who Wait; I liked her, but I found her a little tiresome (much how Emma does in the beginning of this one) but GOD, does she grow on you. Emma, too. I really loved their dynamic, and I love how Haley Cass makes sure to flesh out secondary characters, and has more going on beyond the romance, because it makes it feel that much more immersive and true to life. Tens across the board.

ETA after audiobook re-read: LORI PRINCE’S PERFORMANCE MAKES THIS EVEN BETTER!! Bumping up a star because damn. She is good I
And I almost cried a few times.
ohh i loved this!! both MCs were lovable and fantastic and their dynamic was so good. i reaaaaaly fell in love with maddie, in particular, but i adored them both. the secondary characters, esp/mainly, maddie's family were great, and it has everything you could want from a zombie, road trip, sapphic romance novel. really great.

Sweet and sexy holiday romance
Revisado: 12-20-24
Well, this was really sweet and fun! EJ Noyes has become a must read author for me. Initially, I didn’t connect with her books the way a lot of other readers did, but I’ve enjoyed nearly all of them at least a little, and more of them have become really solid and fun reading experiences. This one, I really appreciated both POVs, as that’s my preference in romance stories, and not something she often does. I loved both Annika and Evie separately and together they were equal parts sweet and very hot. Abby Craden was fantastic as always—initially, I got really worried about the German accent, and while I doubt it was great or all that accurate, it ended up growing on me and worked for me. It helps that Annika is so goddamn dreamy.

Solid queer ya horror
Revisado: 09-09-24
I mean fuck that ghost in the woods, am I right!!
In all seriousness, Natalie C Parker is becoming a must read author, for me. I love her brand of horror, the way she writes complex relationships, and the atmosphere she always puts in her novels. I loved these kiddos and I was rooting for them the whole time. I hate bigots so much, and I love when we all stick together against them. Hope that ghost rots forever and drags those shitty parents down with it, frankly.

Interesting novella with great narration
Revisado: 07-09-24
I picked this up because I enjoy the narrator, and while it wasn’t for me in the same way that a lot of people loved it, I found Jade War trilogy to have some incredible world building and really WANTED to love the characters. This one felt a little similar to me—I found the world really interesting, but didn’t totally connect with the characters as much, however, that might be more because it’s a novella than anything else? Overall, it was enjoyable and left me continuing to be impressed by Fonda Lee’s mind, but still a little wanting. Def worth a few hours listen though!

delightful and fun summer read
Revisado: 07-02-24
i had SUCH a blast with this one. for whatever ungodly reason (probably enjoying watching the straights be messy) i enjoy watching love island (the reality tv show this is VERY obvs based on/taking from) and to have it be SAPPHIC and GENUINE with the romance and friendships, is just the sweetest icing on the cake. it was so much fun. i loved ada (what a goddamn dreamy love interest, i only wish we got a little of her pov, but that's bc i'm greedy) and i adored being in cas's pov. femy (or however you spell his name, i listend on audio) was so adorable and such a good friend to cas. i loved watching cas and ada fall in love, and it was just such a fun summer read. i'm really glad that i listened to audio on this one, as marisa calin was a fantastic performer. she had great accents, really interesting distinctive character voices, and a lovely voice to listen to tell the story.
this is gonna become a regular summer read for me, i think.

Haley Cass & Lori Prince duo can’t be beat, for me
Revisado: 05-09-24
Lori Price’s voice is immaculate. And she gave Gianna one of my favs in her repertoire, so, this is gonna be come a re-listen often, for sure.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
imo, friends to lovers can be rlly hard to nail. i'm pickier abt friends to lovers than i am abt a lot of other romance tropes and this one HITS GOOD. i'm so glad i made the impulse buy to get the physical copy abt 20% into reading my long ago pre-ordered ebook lol, (and DEF soon to be used for an audiobook credit, ESP if she [pls pls pls] keeps working with lori prince as a narrator), bc being able to physically fling the book around dramatically enhanced my reading experience greatly.
(and i did a lot of that. JOEL, MY GUY, YOU ARE THE TECH GUY. AIDA, MY GIRL, WE LITERALLY DON'T KNOW YOU AT ALL BUT YOU DID /NOT/ RUN FAST ENOUGH AND I HAD TO TAKE AN ALMOST HOUR BREAK TO MAKE MYSELF DINNER AND WATCH THE NEWS TO CALM DOWN FROM THE SECOND HAND EMBARASSMENT. HALEY CASS, WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME?)
haley cass, pls /never/ stop doing this to me. i fucking love her books. i've had viseral reactions to her stories since i followed her back in her fanfic days, and even when they don't hit that Top Tier Giddy Level, (as the prequel for this one was for me, & now it's the only one i don't own in all 3 formats, soooo the SECOND that one gets the audiobook cover on the paperback version [pls pls pls pls tell me this will eventually happen, bc i want them all to match and be cute artwork pls pls] even THEN her average, "this was good!" is still higher than some other ones that fall into that category for me).
and this one HIT WONDERFULLY. i was already happy to see riley bc i liked her a lot in book 1, and while i didn't connect with gianna as much in the first one, i rlly loved her here. (my ONLY qualms with this book were i wish maybe we had a little bit more of gianna present time pov, and i wish we had seen a little bit more of ellie interacting with both of them). this was just.... SUCH a good slow burn friends to lovers. with MANY secondhand embarassment points that had me screaming in both horror and delight, swoon worthy moments, characters i loved, connected with, and was cheering for, and some great writing.
so, all in all, another banger by haley cass that will go into my 'keeps re-reading this and holds it up to most other romances' pile. pls never stop making them<3

liked the first 2 books more, unfortunetley
Revisado: 03-30-24
ok... i've got rlly mixed feelings, here.
i think i'll start with THIS book, in particular, and then kinda the series as a whole lower down, bc these last two books HAVE affected how i think abt the series, a little. there WILL be spoilers, but i'll try to keep most of them under tags/semi vague.
this one had a LOT of work to do in order to get me back on its side and rooting for kathryn and jenny, bc my enjoyment of book 3 went lower and lower the longer it went on, and was SUCH a departure from how i felt abt books 1 & 2 (which i rlly loved!!!). for me, it didn't pull me back in the way it seems to have for others, which is SUCH A BUMMER for me. bc I WANTED to like it. i wanted to love it!!! for me, there was still too much of kathryn/thierry. the choice to start the book off with them, and to stay there for a decent chuck early on soured me right away. i also found kathryn <SPOILER>genuinely marrying/falling in love with, and actually considering having children</SPOILER> with thierry unbelievably annoying on every level. there was way too much of him in this book for me, even tho he didn't end up being in more than maybe ?? 30ish% of it. to add on to, men who annoyed me, so much focus mid-way on smitty and his love story was DEEPLY ANNOYING for me, personally. i have never liked him. i find his hanger-on bs with kathryn beyond irritating and have done since book 1. vivienne was a character that i initially liked, but i think she deserved better than chasing after a man while he is still actively, delusionally, in love with another woman and whining abt it when she asks him to fucking maybe, finally, give her some space, pls. (also... not a single sex scene between kat/jenny, but a near one with smitty/vivienne and some veering towards it early kat/theirry interactions was... a choice).
i think i also like... the back and forth of jenny and kat being constantly separated throughout the novel got on my nerves. (this is veering more towards complaints for the series as a whole, so i'm trying to stick to this book, but it felt like we got them together, then separated a few times that just... idk). i also don't think kathryn being tortured by the nazis AGAIN was necessary?? it felt like more torture for torture (and plot stuff, that i wasn't vibing with) sake to further push her 'redemption' and it bothered me. so, cw for a long drawn out semi/fairly graphic? torture scene. i got very scared partway through that it was also going to include rape, but thankfully, it does not. part of the problem for me is that i was just... not that into the war/jenny has this special blood/virus thing aspect of this story as a whole. and that took a larger stage in this one to wrap up things from the series as a whole. but, it also felt like it was left like... not actually wrapped up??? <SPOILER> we meet that shadowy group of men who say they're going to protect her/want her to work for them. and she agrees, and we get a full year, plus of her separated from kathryn while she's healing doing that... but then we never know how/why/come back to it??? like... what was beatrix? did they tell us? DO other ppl find out abt jenny? what does she do after the year plus in europe? it's just dropped unless i missed it at the end. so it felt deeply unsatisfying for me. it was a plot i already didn't like, and then it just felt like it didn't rlly amount well to anything, in the end. </SPOILER> speaking of the longer separation near the end (but trying to keep it vague) i wanted to see more of kathryn with clay and nan and stephanie!!! we got one good scene with her and nan, but only mentions/glossing over the rest, and i would have actually rather SEEN that. take out the long drawn out smitty/vivienne nonsense and give us that, instead.
i just felt like we never got to see them HAPPY for a decent chunk of time. it didn't come together in the end, for me. abby craden was great as always, and tho i bought the ebook the day it came out, i started it, realized it was kat/thierry to start with, and noped out and ended up waiting for the audio. i'm glad that i did, bc that's how i read the whole rest of the series, and abby's performance enhanced my experience.
i think that ultimately, the series veered a little off of a little from what i enjoyed abt it and what wanted it to be. books 1 & 2 felt more intruiging to me as a whole. i liked jenny being on the outside of the spy game more. i liked her as a journalist. i wasn't very into the war aspect (i'm just never going to be). the forester stuff while annoying, at least you KNEW that kathryn didn't like him/was working a job and we didn't get long drawn out sex scenes with him. it felt like replacing him with theirry was so much worse, and (for me) unecessary. it started to lose it for me when it focused more on bigger war/spy plot aspects. books 3 & 4 felt too long and convoluted, and there was so much back and forth of jenny and kathryn being together, then fighting, and seprating, and that's just... not my personal preference. i'd always rather a longer slow burn, and then a decent chuck of seeing the couple together. i'm not saying that we can't have conflict, but plot stuff constantly keeping the characters that i want together, apart, (and having to see them be with other ppl SO MUCH in the meantime) is never something that i'm going to be into. i don't feel like kathryn's 'redemption' was earned. she was just... tortured and then that took up everything. and i didn't like the direction it took.
i don't want to harp on it. bc i did rlly enjoy the first 2, and i will still check out what else j.e leak does next, and i don't think it was terrible, but it ended up not quite being for me/what i wanted it to be, and that's a huge bummer.
