plot a bit predictable but overall very enjoyable
Revisado: 03-16-20
I picked the plot quite early on which made me simply want to get to the end quicker. some sections went on a bit too long..I got tired of hearing how devastated and frankly naive Megan was. but overall it was one the better reads over all the years and significant number of audible books I've read.

Ok but not really a mature writer
Revisado: 03-11-20
the end was rather rushed as the twist unfolded. not a fan of jumping back and forward within time frames and characters for the whole duration of the story...(a bit is ok) . so the story didn't flow for me.
well narrated so that made for a good listening experience .

Historia
In 1786 a fisherman's daughter from Cornwall called Mary Broad was sentenced to be hanged for theft. But her sentence was commuted, and she was transported to Australia, one of the first convicts to arrive there. How Mary escaped the harsh existence of the colony and found true love, and how she was captured and taken back to London in chains, only to be released after a trial where she was defended by no less than James Boswell, is one of the most gripping and moving stories of human endeavour (based on an amazing true story) you will ever listen to.

Always love a story based on truth
Revisado: 05-22-19
fascinating to know this was based on truth.. confronting and made me think of our Australian heritage in a new way. Narrator ok but had an irritating and repetitive upturn at the end of every clause. needs to work on expression.

Revisado: 04-01-19
For all of us who care and love too much. ITs a great book with insights that cut to the bone. beautifully illustrated. The narrator was just a little too dramatic and many passages rather monotonous in tone. Lift it up a little and be a bit more normal please.

In 1906 I was barely over 14 years old, and it was my wedding day. My older sister, Helen, came to my room, took me by the hand, and sat me down on the bed. She said, "You've always been a good girl, Maude, and done what I told you. Now you're going to be a married woman, and he will be the head of the house. When you go home tonight after your party, no matter what he wants to do to you, you have to let him do it. Do you understand?"

self indulgent story that is all about her
Revisado: 10-17-18
the author thinks she is telling about God but failed to hear in her own narrative that it is all about her. ridiculously over emotional with a look at me tone reminds me of the overeactive people I see all the time pretending to care about others but wanting all the attention for themselves. not a very credible book.

"Sometimes I want to spend hours talking with my best friends about boys and fashion and school and life. I want to go to the gym; I want my hair to look nice; I want to be allowed to wear jeans. I want to be a normal young woman living in America, sometimes. But I want other things more. All the time. I want to be spiritually and emotionally filled every day. I want to be loved and cuddled by a hundred children and never go a day without laughing.
