Historia
Does God exist? Do we have a soul? Is it possible to make contact with a spiritual realm? How should we respond to the divine? Will life continue beyond death? Most people, whether deeply religious or outright doubters of any spiritual power, have probably pondered these questions for themselves. In fact, the religious impulse is so powerfully pervasive that neuroscience has posed a provocative question: Are our brains wired to worship?

a veneer of science laid over sermons
Revisado: 04-07-22
Very disappointed . I think exploring the scientific reason behind the universality of religion across all cultures is burgh important and fascinating . But this was not it. Compared to, say, "Consciousness and the social brain" by Michael Graziano or "The Telltale Brain," by V.S Ramachandran this was sadly lacking. way, way to many, "might suggest, " " could indicate," and appears to show," qualifiers to be called scientific to any degree. Only chapter 21 had any meat at all

Historia
In September 1838, a young Englishman named Charles Darwin hit upon the idea that "natural selection" among competing individuals would lead to wondrous adaptations and species diversity. Twenty-one years passed between that epiphany and publication of On the Origin of Species. The human drama and scientific controversy of that time constitute a fascinating, tangled tale that illuminates this cautious naturalist who sparked an intellectual revolution.

Revisado: 05-09-21
Imagine you are alive when Christian apostates were still being burned at the stake, the last auto de fe was in 1852. Imagine further that your professional reputation is on the line. and you want to publish your idea that humans were created by natural selection. And that the wife you adored wanted to share eternity with you, an impossibility if you rejected Christianity.
This was Charles Darwin in the 19th century And this is a great book re that dilemma.

The rural town of Stockton, New York, is famous for nothing: No one was born there, no one died there, nothing of any historical import at all has ever happened there, which is why Solomon Kugel, like other urbanites fleeing their pasts and histories, decided to move his wife and young son there. To begin again. To start anew. But it isn't quite working out that way.

Been reading audio books for 30+ years. Worst book ever. Seems to be an allegory on the uselessness of life, and the anomie of modern civilization. It sits with other books i detested, "Lord of the Flies," and "Catcher in the Rye. " If you liked those books, you'll love this one.
