Historia
For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying.

A Huge Disappointment
Revisado: 04-18-25
I committed to finishing it, but here's what I didn't like about this book:
1. should have been half as long--too much irrelevant description of clothing etc.
2. A lot of horrible ignorant people doing horrible ugly things.
3. The mystery took so long to unfold but in the end was pretty standard stuff.
4. Did I mention a lot of ugly, abusive, sad, horrible stuff? It outweighed the good that the heroes of the book were doing.
The narrator was good. That's about all I can say about this that was positive.

One of the best books I’ve read
Revisado: 05-28-24
I read 2-3 books at a time and am never without a book in progress, so it means a lot that I consider this one of the best books I’ve read. Album has created a masterpiece with Truth telling the story, and the four main characters evolving and interacting in heartful, heartbreaking, and ingenious ways. While the story of the Holocaust has been told many times through historical fiction—it’s never been told like this. I hope it becomes a film.

Only book I ever thought about immediately relistening
Revisado: 04-28-24
Amy Harmon is one of the few authors I’ve read (and I read constantly) who is magical. What I mean by that is that I feel myself falling into her stories, and it becomes a magical all-consuming enchantment. Noble Salt is at the top of my list as this type of Amy Harmon book, and I’ve read almost all of them. If you love this one, try her Unknown Beloved, the Songbook of Benny Lament, and her fantasy books—The First Girl Child, The Second Blind son. You are welcome!

almost perfect!
Revisado: 03-27-24
One of the best mysteries/thrillers I've read in a while. Intelligent twists and turns. One small picky point--could have wrapped it up a little tidier and not so quickly, but overall 5 stars! Want to read more of Ashley Elston's books now!

Creative way of exploring different perspectives on life
Revisado: 03-14-24
Although it could be a little sermonizing at times, I enjoyed the storyline and the way the reader was drawn into the conflicting realities. Especially liked how the realities came together and lessons learned. Think it could have had a more memorable title though.

Still feeling the afterglow
Revisado: 03-07-24
The hard parts of this book were hard, but totally worth it in the end. Very clear demonstration that joy comes hard-earned, and so worth it. There were times I could hardly listen to the disjointed life of Melody Brown (with an amazing narrator). I love how Melody stayed true to herself and was brave enough to question until she learned the truth about herself, with a lot of compassion and grounded in reality. Only wish her “parents” were included in the forgiveness by the end—felt that could have rounded out everything.

Kate Quinn and new to me author did a great job
Revisado: 02-28-24
While the story was a little thin, I thought— compared to other Kate Quinn books, it was still an enrapturing story about a time period that I knew not much about —the San Francisco earthquake & the early part of the 1900s. I love the four strong women in the story, and wish there was a little more development of each of them.

Deep, Obsessed. Grim. Insightful
Revisado: 02-18-24
Sometimes I couldn’t wait for this book to be done, other times I was struck by its depth and ingenuity. Mostly though, I felt it grinding on me. I wanted it to work out differently and seemed like the ending was stuck together quite quickly just to “wrap up” somehow. The narrator was perfect. Love to hear her in other books.

Couldn’t finish
Revisado: 01-18-24
Got this on sale, and had to say I wasted the money—wasn’t worth finishing. Not well-written nor narrated. Took so long to get the backstory going that I didn’t care anymore as it unfolded slowly and without any finesse.
