Satisfying Conclusion
Revisado: 01-08-24
Being the last book in a series I've enjoyed listening to these past many years, I will miss the elaborately simple, fantastically realistic, world of Sookie Stackhouse and the many characters in it.
Narrator Joanna Parker has done a wonderful job voicing the dozens of characters (both male and female) and a narration by her will be a definite plus when considering future listens.

Historia
An almost-true story about a small town in Texas that ought to exist if it doesn’t, with characters like Sam the Lion, the delectable Jacy, and Ruth Popper, the coach’s wife. Set in a small, dusty, Texas town, The Last Picture Show introduced the characters of Jacy, Duane, and Sonny: teenagers stumbling toward adulthood, discovering the beguiling mysteries of sex and the even more baffling mysteries of love.

Life in a Small Texas Town in 1950's
Revisado: 03-29-22
A book about life in a small town in a time past. Populated with depressing characters who are also realistic and well-thought are out. The book is filled with anecdotes tied with a loose narrative. The stories are often strange, sometimes disturbing, but they are well-written. The narrator's dry style presents the story very well and keeps the absurd from sounding so. It is rarely humorous but is often touching and sad. Life moves on and drags us along in its wake.

Political Insight for Easy Listening
Revisado: 03-21-22
John Boehner is an increasingly rare politician: someone who believes he is right but not feel that he has to demonize those thatdisagree with him. He is memoir is light on the personal details and focuses on giving a peek behind the curtain and telling easy to listen to stories that weren't going to make the news.
Boehner's honest appraisals of those around him make him relatable and his political memoir is an entertaining, often humorous, listening experience.

Historia
Lively, absorbing, often outrageously funny, Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales is a work of genius, an undisputed classic that has held a special appeal for each generation of readers. The Tales gathers 29 of literature's most enduring (and endearing) characters in a vivid group portrait that captures the full spectrum of medieval society, from the exalted Knight to the humble Plowman. This unabridged work is based on the new translation.

A Superior Entry in a Great Series
Revisado: 03-10-22
"From Dead to Worse" eally advance the overall story.
The narrator's voices for the different character really gives life to them and is a pleasure to hear. The secondary characters are well thought out and the primary character continues to be both interesting and a boring normal person.
A lot of long plotlines have been put to rest, leaving the author room to make new ones.
It feels like the second act has ended in the Southern Vampire mystery series and I look forward to what's coming .

Unlikable Characters in an Inconsequential Story
Revisado: 03-01-22
I liked the characters but the modern day assassins are unlikable and the story makes no justification for why they are right. Omar's blindness is too much and makes a great character silly.
The acting is good, the production is good and I like the idea if self-contained stories.

Multi-layered mystery dealing with difficult stuff
Revisado: 02-11-22
Harris's Silence of the Lambs meets Burke's Robicheaux in Faulkner's Mississippi.
The narrator's fluid, lyrical, southern accent perfectly fits the setting.
The story hooks you and reels you in with complex, flawed characters in a twisting mystery in a weighty story that gets heavier as it goes on.
The plot is ominous and heavy. but is rewarding to the reader
The narrator is good. Her use of electronic media for phone calls is a nice touch. The female narrator is not very good at differentiating male characters, but their emoting makes up for it.

Historia
The year is A.D. 922. A refined Arab courtier, representative of the powerful Caliph of Baghdad, encounters a party of Viking warriors who are journeying to the barbaric North. He is appalled by their Viking customs - the wanton sexuality of their pale, angular women, their disregard for cleanliness...their cold-blooded human sacrifices. But it is not until they reach the depths of the Northland that the courtier learns the horrifying and inescapable truth.

Disappointing Audiobook
Revisado: 02-02-22
I read the book before and liked it but the format does make a good audible experience.
The dry narrative fails to capture the exciting plot of the book. It reads like an anthropological account, which may have been the intent of the author, giving a realistic rub to such a fantastic story.
The narrator himself seems to have different versions and the alteration in his voice between chapters 6 and chapters 7 is jarring.
The digressions that the narrator (and author) takes for extra-factual context are jarring because the narrator does not differentiate their tone very well from these scholarly statements and the Arabic protagonist.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Boring.
Revisado: 01-28-22
very droll and dry
occasionally funny
well written and concise sentences no extra fat to chew
but it drags on and on, with no twists or turns to a conclusion easy to see coming
The voice narration is lacking, in a book with many characters, it is hard to differentiate them which is hard to follow in multi-character settings.
The plot is overall exceedingly boring with few bright spots.

Advances the Overall Story, lacks a concise plot
Revisado: 01-20-22
Where is Rhodes, Illinois? The author does so well writing such immersive descriptive locations for real cities, that the imaginary small city of Rhodes cane off as generic and flat. That one complaint aside I liked this entry in the series. It digs Sookie further deeper into a hole that she did not create nor can she get out of. Appearances by characters from past books give fuel to the feeling that this is a real universe with people who grow and mature even when not near the protagonist.
As always, the voice narration is great and I do not take it for granted.
