I Rooted for Her (Mostly)
Revisado: 03-29-24
The voices chosen were right-on, and the pacing felt good. I just didn't "root" for Evelyn or Monique the way I wanted to.
*The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo* is a captivating novel that takes readers on a journey through the glamorous and tumultuous life of the titular character, Evelyn Hugo. The story is beautifully written overall, with complex characters and intricate relationships that keep you turning the pages.
What makes this book truly stand out is its powerful exploration of love, ambition, and the price of fame. The author skillfully weaves together past and present, revealing the highs and lows of Evelyn's life in Hollywood.
I just didn't connect with the characters as much as I would have liked. I gladly would have read an extra 100 pages of the novel had it been able to help with the character development and the plot and pacing.

Revisado: 05-30-23
It was captivating yet still not as fulfilling as it could have been. Very well-delivered by Juliet. I loved all the characters but hoped for a more resounding finale.

I have loved this trilogy for a long time. I had completed the two before, years ago. Now I finally finished this one! I adored every single moment. (I reread the others before this.) I recommend this audiobook highly. It is masterfully read by Jill. I am so thankful for Jennifer Donnelly and her quality of plot construction and character development and world-building.

It has been 12 years since a dark, murderous figure stalked the alleys and courts of Whitechapel. And yet, in the summer of 1900, East London is still poor, still brutal, still a shadow city to its western twin. Among the reformers is an idealistic young woman named India Selwyn-Jones, recently graduated from medical school. With the help of her influential fiance - Freddie Lytton, an up-and-coming Liberal MP - she works to shut down the area's opium dens that destroy both body and soul.
