Historia
Young and in love, their lives ahead of them, Tami Oldham and her fiancé, Richard Sharp, set sail from Tahiti under brilliant blue skies, with Tami’s hometown of San Diego as their ultimate destination. But the two free spirits and avid sailors couldn’t anticipate that less than two weeks into their voyage, they would sail directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history.

Don’t let this turn you off of watching the movie
Revisado: 09-13-23
This is tooo long and tooo much detailed. Having watched and enjoyed the movie, i am glad the screenplay of it did not use very much from the book at all. I kept listening for something…better. Mostly, for a less little-girl tone and sing-song delivery, even at the saddest of times.

Historia
Defying both civil authorities and the Mormon establishment in Salt Lake City, the renegade leaders of these Taliban-like theocracies are zealots who answer only to God; some 40,000 people still practice polygamy in these communities. At the core of Krakauer’s book are brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a commandment from God to kill a blameless woman and her baby girl. Beginning with a meticulously researched account of this appalling double murder, Krakauer constructs a bone-chilling narrative of messianic delusion, polygamy, savage violence, and unyielding faith.

If you’ve always wanted to know
Revisado: 05-09-22
I’m a Jon Krakauer fan. I re-read (by listening) this book to prepare to watch the new TV series, and loved it all over again. Such a large part of U.S. history to have learned only in my 60’s! All of this story is riveting, but the descriptions of the LDS church’s origins, and its belief system, simply rocked my world. At least now i understand why there is such an “otherness” that i never understood in my LDS students, friends, etc. All of Krakauer’s
books take root in my head and set me ruminating, and often further researching, for days and weeks. Good brain food!

Historia
Why are certain women able to stay thin and never, ever diet? What is different between these naturally thin women and those that can only struggle to thinness through obsessive diet-like behaviors? The book explains the significant body of science which finally reveals the differences between the brains of thin and overweight women. It details the alterations in the brain that occur from years of overeating and dieting - and how to reverse them.
