Amazing Cinderella story!!!
Revisado: 04-26-22
First, Elle Cleviden needs to narrate ALL the books! I want to hear her narrate novels, the news, recipes, everything! Her voice is incredible and she’s soooo talented with all her character voices too! Love her!
Now the story, and just to warn you, I don’t like Hollywood or cowboys romances, but I loved this! Amanda was the cutest, Sam was the sexiest, and their romance was lovely! This is a low-angst story which is exactly what I love. But the story really shines with the dialogue, especially the dialogue between Sam and Amanda. My heart was so happy listening to them flirt! Just a perfect story!

I wish I could have everyone I know read this. And then the world, especially fellow white women. I know I’m going to listen to this several times over.

Historia
A disturbing tale of a young man's uncanny ability to remain both young and beautiful while descending into a life of heartless debauchery, The Picture of Dorian Gray was considered proof of both Wilde's genius and his perversion. Oscar Wilde's scandalous best seller of 1891 was one of the most damning pieces of evidence used against him in the trial that brought about his downfall.

It’s Oscar Wilde, so of course it’s brilliant. And the performance is just as touching, insightful, dramatic, and lovely!

Historia
In a rare and gorgeous departure, beloved novelist Alice Hoffman weaves a web of tales, all set in Blackbird House. This small farm on the outer reaches of Cape Cod is a place that is as bewitching and alive as the characters we meet. These interconnected narratives are as intelligent as they are haunting, as luminous as they are unusual. Inside Blackbird House more than a dozen men and women learn how love transforms us and how it is the one lasting element in our lives.

My favorite Alice Hoffmann yet!!!
Revisado: 03-27-21
I adore Hoffmann which is provably obvious, though sometimes she could nail home a point more succinctly. But this book of short stories is quite special, even for her. It’s magical and lovely.

Historia
Some Americans cling desperately to the myth that we are living in a post-racial society, that the election of the first Black president spelled the doom of racism. In fact, racist thought is alive and well in America - more sophisticated and more insidious than ever. And as award-winning historian Ibram X. Kendi argues in Stamped from the Beginning, if we have any hope of grappling with this stark reality, we must first understand how racist ideas were developed, disseminated, and enshrined in American society.

Should be taught in every American school. Informative, impassioned, intelligent—a perfect history textbook. Highly recommended, and I never have used those latter words before.

Historia
In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

Historia
In White Trash, Nancy Isenberg upends assumptions about America's supposedly class-free society. Poor whites were central to the rise of the Republican Party in the early 19th century, and the Civil War itself was fought over class issues nearly as much as it was fought over slavery. Reconstruction pitted poor white trash against newly freed slaves, which factored in the rise of eugenics. These poor were at the heart of New Deal reforms and LBJ's Great Society; they haunt us in reality TV shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty.

Worth it for the laughing and sound effects alone!
Revisado: 08-04-17
I didn't know this was a recording of a workshop, but it's wonderful all the same. Ever time I listened, I found myself smiling so much from all the laughing done at this workshop, making me feel like I was one of the participants. And then there's the wisdom of Tolle. So profound. I'm not a spiritual person, and for those parts I just tuned out, but everything else was very moving, very transformative.
