Great story, but predictable, bad narrator
Revisado: 12-03-24
The narrator mispronouncing so many things. On more than one occasion the brasseries were lit instead of the brazers. There were others but I can't remember.

If you want to hear about how the natural way of the universe is the love between a man and woman with children and that civilization falls otherwise buy this book. So much praying and thanking god for being alive. It's just too much, I'm done with this series

Historia
At Omicron 9, Professor Ludendorff unearthed artifacts of the fabled Old Ones. During a meeting in a subterranean chamber, a portal appeared and aliens attacked, perhaps to kidnap the professor or grab the artifacts. Maddox’s new intuitive sense gave him just enough warning. He saved Ludendorff and rushed into the portal to forestall any more assaults - and thus began his lonely odyssey from one strange place to another. Maddox eventually found a Builder potential unit, and they resolved to work together. But the unit betrayed him and then Victory.

Somehow This Turned Into Christian Propaganda
Revisado: 01-06-23
This series started so fun and I want to know how it ends but this is too much. So in this book there was a full recitation of the lord's prayer. There was a sequence where the captain drew strength to overcome from the realization and then affirmation from the universe that the union between man and woman in marriage to have children is the proper and natural path. In another sequence when faced with a nearly impossible task the captain's solution is to pray to the lord for assistance with the whole crew while another character solved the problem. so you are left with the question; did the lord work through them? The author literally spells out this question to ponder. The professor who is a womanizer gets lectured for his ways and told that a piece of him is left behind with each sexual conquest. He's told to settle down and get married to find true peace and happiness. Lots of creationst comments and other not so subtle things throughout. Oh i almost forgot, they explained the biblical flood too. The end was especially heavy handed god loving tear filled sappiness that I couldn't wait to wrap up and actually fast forward through. Lastly writing is getting lazy. 200,000 light years from home? The milky way is only 100,000 across, and the rest of the sci-fi stuff is just turning into mystical alien god magic. Mark Boyett, please think twice before you do another! I wish I had not already bought the next book in the series.

Historia
Star Watch stands guard over the Commonwealth, having defeated New Men, massed Swarm fleets and android attackers. The victories have cost lost ships, slain crews, and smashed star systems. The accumulated damage means that Star Watch now strains to keep order as political instability, increased space piracy and rebellions stretch the stellar organization to the limit. Humanity desperately needs peace so Star Watch can rebuild and regroup. Unfortunately, Lord Drakos is searching the Beyond for a splinter Swarm colony world.

Historia
Androids used to mingle among us, pretending to be human. Then an alien puppet-master altered their programming. Unknown to us, androids began leaving human society, burning their clothes and peeling off their skin to reveal the chrome-colored bodies underneath. They gathered in a system were a star had exploded, blowing away the atmosphere of a Jupiter-like planet. The supernova had hurled heavy metals against the remaining core. The androids are mining supermetals that can turn ordinary ship weapons and shields into invincible armaments.

Became Christian Fiction
Revisado: 09-19-22
This book is much like the rest in the series with the story, characters, action, mysterious alien, etc. Where it became much different was with the overt praying to a Christian god, and on more than one occasion when meeting new aliens the captain attributes humanity's altruistic nature to the teachings of Jesus.

Interesting idea, Unbelievable Characters
Revisado: 12-30-20
So mythical creatures are real, they've always been here, and they're hiding in plain sight. Okay fine, but...
Mostly I didn't like this trilogy because the main characters had zero motivation to do any of the things they did. No matter how awful things get, how ever many people died, lives ruined, husbands cheating, etc. These people's loyalty is unflappable.
The whole book we're told over and over and over again by everyone who learns about them how they are SO SPECIAL we have to protect them. No matter how horrible they are and how much they ruin lives they will never betray them or give up their secrets. They are lied to and manipulated over and over, but they just keep carrying on. The love of my life abandoned me and is in love with them, but it's okay because how can I blame him, they are after all, so special. Except for a vast underground criminal network of gangsters, celebrities, politicians, and miscellaneous rich people who collect their body parts like precious ivory or sometimes eat them at grotesque dinner parties... Yet somehow they are still unknown to the greater world. On one hand we've got mobsters running a thriving global black market and on the other there's a top secret branch of the US Military which after decades or more of fully funded searching has only uncovered vague hints of their existence.
The bad guys want to go back to their glory days ruling over humans like gods. So why did you stop to begin with? Most of you still have all your powers and magics, and the ones that don't the book explains lost said powers after they gave it up to blend in with humans..

Not the best butcher book, but good
Revisado: 11-17-20
It was fun, but felt rushed. The audio quality is not as good as the previous books. Performance is still great though. Story reads like fan fiction at times. Overall pretty fun, but too corny for my tastes. Still a fan, looking forward to the next one!

Couldn't finish
Revisado: 04-24-20
So bad. I didn't care for book one but thought it might get better. I loved lightbringer, the author's other series, but this is all misogynistic teenage boy rape fantasy. It's really bad. The lead female character (who is like 15) is made out to be a total bitch because she doesn't want to have sex. Everyone else is either getting raped or raping except for the main character who spends all his time running around murdering people to repeat his sexual tensions brought on by that same female character who won't have sex with him. There might be a plot in there somewhere but 4 hours in and I didn't see it.

This was basically propaganda
Revisado: 11-05-19
Half this book is the characters crying while reciting prayers. The other half is incredibly uncomfortable ghost rape. Message is, if you listen to rock music, drink, or even think about the occult you will get possessed and raped by demons every night. Very disappointing. Not even joking, if you strung together all the times a character said the hail Mary it would fill a whole chapter. No wonder this was in the big one get one free section.
