The United States Government made many promises and signed many treaties with the indigenous plains Indians, and ultimately failed to honor them. Two hundred years have passed, and not much has changed. The Federal Government still makes promises today, and too often disappoints. What can we learn from this? The government will not take care of you. We are responsible for ourselves. If it is to be, it is up to you. I think the United States is the greatest country on the planet. However, it is imperative that we as citizens be self reliant. Do not surrender your freedoms to the government. Our government was originally designed to have a system of checks and balances, and we need that. Ask questions. Seek to understand. Vote and hold our politicians accountable for their actions. Government is essential but needs to be controlled by the people and for the people. In God we trust.

If Peter can walk 2,189 miles of the Appalachian Trail, you can too. We can do more than we think we can. Break complex scenarios into smaller parts, then complete the small objectives in sequence. You can accomplish more than you may now think feasible. This book edified me and I think it can edify you as well.

As I am writing this, I learned that one of my neighbors, who lost his wife of 60 years, shot himself in the his backyard. He had many children and grandchildren. He often rode a golf cart in our subdivision and waived as he rode by. As his neighbor, I had no idea how lonely he was. Now, there are many police cars at his house, picking up his body. I wish I had known how lonely he was. My point is, people near us, and you, are suffering and lonely. Let’s all make extra efforts to engage others in conversation and listen to what they have to say. Everyone needs to be noticed and valued. Many people are going through trials and tribulations that we do not know about. Let us all reach out more to others, and let them know everyone has value and are loved, even by their neighbors.

The meaning of what Hemingway was really saying….

Overall, the meaning of "To Have and Have Not" lies in its exploration of the human condition within a capitalist society. It raises questions about the moral compromises individuals make to survive, the inequalities perpetuated by wealth, and the corrosive effects of a system that values material possessions above all else. Through its portrayal of struggle, desperation, and the human spirit, Hemingway's novel offers a poignant reflection on the complexities of life in a world divided by haves and have-nots.

Noted as historical fiction, and 90% true. Setting is Milan, Italy in WWII. It strikes a cord with me as my father was there at that time, a combat infantryman in WWII on the Gustav line, at the Battle Monte Cassino, where he earned a Silver Star for Valor,
was wounded by the Nazis, and sent to a prisoner of war camp in Hamburg, Germany. Subject book does a great job describing what it was like, to be there at that point in history. People that were there, at the time, that lived it, did (do) not want to remember it enough to tell this true story. This book filled in for me what it was like, to be there, at that point in time. As such, I highly recommend this book. Great job by the author.

I hope there is a sequel to “A Time for Mercy”. The author did a great job weaving together Ford County, the old familiar characters, the time period, with some social challenges that exist today. I have read all of John Grisham’s books. In this book, the author took more time developing details of subplots which woven together was a great story. The book was longer than most of the author’s previous books, which allowed me to enjoy the story longer. Will there be a sequel?

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. I think you will too. If you have ever wondered what goes on before the curtain went up with The Rolling Stones, and after the curtain went down , this book is for you. Larry Hawk

This single book does a great job of explaining how the Bible was written by 40 authors, over a 1,000 plus year time period, from different geographic places, who could not have collaborated, yet the Bible is one unified message. Book also elaborates on the historical accuracy of the Bible, as well as fulfillment of Biblical prophecies.
