Historia
Few events have ever shaken a country in the way that the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor affected the United States. After the devastating attack, Japanese forces continued to overwhelm the Allies, attacking Malaya with its fortress of Singapore, and taking resource-rich islands in the Pacific - Borneo, Sumatra, and Java - in their own blitzkrieg offensive. Allied losses in these early months after America's entry into the war were great, and among the most devastating were those suffered during the Java Sea Campaign.

If you want to learn about the ABDA (American/British/Dutch/Australian) Fleet and Battle of Java, this is it!
Revisado: 01-13-24
I read about the battles that happened around Java during WW2 from a U.S. naval book, although it was mostly based around the USS Houston, still I wanted to know more but material on the subject is very scarce,
This book tells you the fate of Dutch East Indies, it gives you the situation of the Allies before the war and during this campaign. You learn about the heroism, mistakes, courage, fate of the many people and ships. Most of the time you don’t read much about ABDA, WW2 history tends to skip that part or gives you a small paragraph on the Dutch East Indies then focus on Coral Sea and onwards.
I enjoyed this book personally as I learned more of the heroic acts of ABDA, even though out gunned, out numbered in sea and air. They did their best and fought together.

Historia
Philbert Bono and Buddy Red Bird are about to prove that the spirit of the great warriors is still alive and kicking. Their "war pony," a burned-out, rusty 1964 Buick LeSabre, has left a trail of dust from Montana's Lame Deer Reservation halfway down Interstate 25 as they take off to bail Buddy's sister out of jail. The basis for the great movie of the same name, this quiet debut novel, first published in 1979, has become a classic of Native American literature.

More detailed than the movie, I have to say the better version.
Revisado: 12-13-23
If you seen the movie Powwow Highway, you will feel it lacking, The book or audiobook will fill you in on more of the thoughts and background of the characters. Don’t get me wrong the movie is rememberable as an American Indian just because we share a similar experiences from life on the reservation to the division between the traditional and Anglo world. Do prepare for more sexual material and crime though. The book was good, the narrator was great, good to have a better idea what the author was going for.

Historia
In 1854, a quarter of a million British soldiers headed east to fight in the Crimean War. Together with their French and Turkish allies, the goal was to free the important port city of Sevastopol from the clutches of Russia, thus keeping them from the seizing control of the Red Sea and thence Mediterranean. This they did, but not without considerable hardship, suffering and loss of life - over 21,000 British men fell to enemy fire, accidents and disease.

If you want a first hand account of the Crimean war from a British soldier. This is it. From the shores of England to Crimea, then to the city of Sevastopol. He gives an account of the many hardships he experienced, the loss of comrades, the battles that were fought. A great listen if you want to know more about Crimea.

Like Gettysburg, Stalingrad, Midway, and Tet, the battle at Dien Bien Phu - a strategic attack launched by France against the Vietnamese in 1954 after eight long years of war - marked a historic turning point. By the end of the 56-day siege, a determined Viet Minh guerrilla force had destroyed a large tactical French colonial army in the heart of Southeast Asia.

If you want to learn about the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, this the book.
Revisado: 03-26-23
Very detailed from most other books about the battle which gloss over it. It may feel a bit overwhelming with the unit names and may get lost without a map of the battlefield, make sure you gain some basic knowledge of the terrain, do stop when you hear certain units names so you can look them up and understand the abbreviations.
The narration is good.
You learn more about the prelude to the battle which is important to the battle, I never heard of it before so it was very nice. You go through day by day of the battle at a nice pace.
Go slow and do return to chapters or sections you didn’t understand, I love this book and the audio was helpful as I went to and from work.

Leaving off from the previous course, it starts the rule of Stalin and goes through the rise of other communist countries like Yugoslavia, Albania, Romania, China, East Germany, Cambodia, North Korea. Simple and easy learning with the accompanying pdf. The audio is great and keeps you engaged through out the course.
You become amazed at the actions and policies of the communist as they try create that dream of a Karl Marx and Lenin. At times you feel the immense cost of human life as communist shape their nations. I recommend this to anyone trying to learn about communism and it history.

Historia
The Pawnee Indians were a fierce, proud, and determined people who called themselves the "men of men". Though there are many Native American tribes to learn about, the Pawnees were unique in many ways; they were a peace-loving, agricultural people with permanent settlements in what is now Nebraska. They dedicated themselves to their gods, the stars, and even arranged their villages according to important star clusters.

Historia
At dawn on September 22, 1711, more than five hundred Tuscarora, Core, Neuse, Pamlico, Weetock, Machapunga, and Bear River Indian warriors swept down on the unsuspecting European settlers living along the Neuse and Pamlico Rivers of North Carolina. During the following days, they destroyed hundreds of farms, killed at least 140 men, women, and children, and took about 40 captives. So began the Tuscarora War, North Carolina's bloodiest colonial war and surely one of its most brutal.

By understanding the dramatic story of the Ottoman Empire - from its early years as a collection of raiders and conquerors to its undeniable power in the 15th and 16th centuries to its catastrophic collapse in the wreckage of the First World War - one can better grasp the current complexities of the Middle East. Befitting a story of such epic scope and grandeur, every lecture is a treasure trove of historical insights into the people, events, themes, and locales responsible for shaping the story of this often-overlooked empire.
