Historia
What causes spacetime to curve? Einstein's theory of relativity offers an answer, but for decades after he published it, there were only a few, very subtle tests of its validity. How has modern astrophysics changed all that?

Don't Waste Your Time
Revisado: 03-21-19
First of all, this guy talks a hundred miles an hour, and what he says is the most superficial explanation of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. You know what bothers me about guys like this one? It's like a 5th grade math teacher who goes over addition and subtraction with his students and then starts throwing in calculus terms along with random differential equations expecting you to "keep up, people". And of course he never does explain the "why" , only a tiny bit about the how. Shame...

Historia
Sixty-six million years ago, an object the size of a city descended from space to crash into Earth, creating a devastating cataclysm that killed off the dinosaurs, along with three-quarters of the other species on the planet. What was its origin? In Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs, Lisa Randall proposes it was a comet that was dislodged from its orbit as the solar system passed through a disk of dark matter embedded in the Milky Way. In a sense it might have been dark matter that killed the dinosaurs.

Good Stuff About Dark Matter
Revisado: 12-03-15
I knew about dark matter and its gravitational influence on ordinary matter, but I thought dark matter could only exist in any measureable quantity outside our galaxy. But now I know that pockets of dense dark matter could exist inside our galaxy which can perturbe the Oort Cloud sending comets into our inner solar system. It's a little more complicated than this, other factors contribute as well, but if you listen to this audio book, you'll discover that dark matter is more than just scaffolding.

Historia
Everyone recognises the famous physicist with the wild, white hair. But what sort of person was the young Albert Einstein, before he became universally acclaimed as the archetypal genius? And how did his genius unfold? In this brilliant new Kindle Single, scientist Robyn Arianrhod blends biography with popular science to tell the story of how young Albert developed a theory that - unknown to him at first - contained the seeds of his extraordinary equation E = mc2.

Historia
No subject is bigger than reality itself, and nothing is more challenging to understand, since what counts as reality is undergoing continual revision and has been for centuries. The quest to pin down what's real and what's illusory is both philosophical and scientific, a metaphysical search for ultimate reality that goes back to the ancient Greeks. For the last 400 years, this search has been increasingly guided by scientists, who create theories and test them in order to define and redefine reality.

overall not bad
Revisado: 09-21-15
the beginning chapters are the best. they point out how reality changed with the discovery that certain bacteria cause disease and so antibiotics were invented. he describes how newton overturned aristotle and how einstein overturned newton. he describes the standard model, chaos theory and inflation theory of the early universe. but after that he just gives an account of how the world is today especially brought about by computers and the internet which wasn't all that informative.

The speakers are all very good. They do mostly explain various pholosophers point of view. The one on Martin Luther was the best for me because it explained the mind and thoughts of Luther that brought about the Reformation.

Historia
"It doesn't take an Einstein to understand modern physics," says Professor Wolfson at the outset of these 24 lectures on what may be the most important subjects in the universe: relativity and quantum physics. Both have reputations for complexity. But the basic ideas behind them are, in fact, simple and comprehensible by anyone. These dynamic and illuminating lectures begin with a brief overview of theories of physical reality starting with Aristotle and culminating in Newtonian or "classical" physics.

Overall more of a review of quantum physics than Einstein's theories. Also, lectures are before discovery of Higgs boson. Explains standard model superficially. Superficial explanation of time dilation.

Historia
Would you like to know how the universe works? Scientists have been asking that question for a long time and have found that many of the answers can be found in the study of particle physics, the field that focuses on those impossibly tiny particles with unbelievably strange names - the hadrons and leptons, baryons and mesons, muons and gluons - so mystifying to the rest of us.

Mostly Old Stuff
Revisado: 05-15-15
From what I could pick up, this is from 2007. For example, the instructor talks about the search for the Higgs boson and what he believes will be found. This is a light brushing of particle physics. If you've already done some study of this, it will be a repeat of what you already know. You'll also recognize some mistakes because his knowledge is somewhat old. If you've never read anything on particle physics and are curious, this is an ok introduction even though some of what you'll hear is either wrong or not up to date.
