Claire Danes knocks this one out of the park!
Revisado: 09-25-19
The narrator was an excellent choice for this novel. Claire Danes drew the emotion out of every sentence and makes you feel as if the handmaid herself is reading the story to you. Now...on to the Testament

Historia
Labeled variously a realistic story of whaling, a romance of unusual adventure and eccentric characters, a symbolic allegory, and a drama of heroic conflict, Moby Dick is first and foremost a great story. It has both the humor and poignancy of a simple sea ballad, as well as the depth and universality of a grand odyssey.

Nautical terms are hard to follow
Revisado: 07-10-19
While I am pleased with the performance of this story, the story itself is difficult to follow. If you'd like to skip the several chapters describing different whales, or the exceedingly detailed descriptions of them, an abridged version should be seriously considered. I did struggle to finish it but I am glad that I did. Again, the performance is superb.

Historia
Centuries on, what the Reformation was and what it accomplished remain deeply contentious. Peter Marshall's sweeping new history argues that 16th-century England was a society neither desperate for nor allergic to change, but one open to ideas of "reform" in various competing guises. This engaging history reveals what was really at stake in the overthrow of Catholic culture and the reshaping of the English Church.

A heavy read but well worth it.
Revisado: 12-02-18
If you are looking for a general overview of the English Reformation then this book isn't for you. It covers a relatively narrow era of English history but explains in great detail how the English Reformation is unique compared to the greater Protestant Reformation of Europe. If you're a student of history then you will not be dissatisfied with this book.

Nothing ever changes in Sanders. The town's still got a video store, for God's sake. So why doesn't Eli Teague want to leave? Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.

"history" travel acknowledging time paradoxes
Revisado: 11-02-18
The story is gutsy for a science fiction novel. Time travel is extremely difficult to maintain in any story. Clines simply acknowledges the paradoxes and iterations and doesn't try explaining it. This is what I found to be so genuine about this story. I like how "history" travel is the summation of all actions advancing the plot.

Revisado: 06-30-18
I am amazed at how this story pulls at your emotions so strongly. I haven't seen the movie and I'm not sure I will because I don't want to ruin the story as it played in my mind. Absolutely brilliant! This book will go in my #1 slot of favorites. Will Wheaton does an excellent job. I wonder how he felt when he read his own name as a character reference in the story? If you are a gamer at heart, read this book, you won't be disappointed!

Historia
A vicious 15-year-old droog is the central character of this 1963 classic, a frightening fable about good and evil, and the meaning of human freedom. In Anthony Burgess' nightmare vision of the future, where the criminals take over after dark, the story is told by the central character, Alex, who talks in a brutal invented slang that brilliantly renders his and his friends' social pathology.

Rough and tumble story
Revisado: 05-18-18
I remember seeing the film for the first time in 1999, as a senior in high school. Now that I've read the book as an adult, I picked up on more of the adolescent overtones and "ultra violence". Nevertheless, the book is better, especially since this version includes the 21st chapter. It took me a while to pick up on the "nadsat" language to understand what the narrator was talking about but found its use a brilliant depiction of the evolution of juvenile slang. The author pulls no punches describing the violence in this story, admittedly drawing revulsion from myself with details.
Definitely worth reading if you're a fan of the movie. The book makes much better sense of the title than the movie depicts.

Historia
Invite Hannibal Lecter into the palace of your mind and be invited into his mind palace in turn. Note the similarities in yours and his, the high vaulted chambers of your dreams, the shadowed halls, the locked storerooms where you dare not go, the scrap of half-forgotten music, the muffled cries from behind a wall. In one of the most eagerly anticipated literary events of the decade, Thomas Harris takes us once again into the mind of a killer, crafting a chilling portrait of insidiously evolving evil - a tour de force of psychological suspense.

Frank Muller's voice fits perfectly in the reading of this story, especially when rendering Lecter's dialogues with Clarice. As for Thomas Harris, I consider this his masterpiece. I have no doubt Silence of the Lambs will someday become a classic!
