Historia
Aristotle wrote on everything from the shape of seashells to sterility, from speculations on the nature of the soul to meteorology, poetry, art, and even the interpretation of dreams. Apart from mathematics, he transformed every field of knowledge that he touched. Above all, Aristotle is credited with the founding of logic. When he first divided human knowledge into separate categories, he enabled our understanding of the world to develop in a systematic fashion.

Misrepresentation of Aristotle
Revisado: 09-09-20
I understand that this is a beginners book, but I had hoped that it would actually be fair to Aristotle's thought. The authors seem to demean his position and unfairly characterize them. Being a philosopher by trade, I was disappointed to see one of the greatest minds treated in such a dismissive manner. Sure, Aristotle got some things wrong, but it seems like the book was taking a stance that science has now replaced and superceded not only Aristotle, but philosophy itself, which is a simplistic and flawed worldview. This is the second book in this series I've read and will probably be the last as both suffer from the same problems.

Decent World Building
Revisado: 05-14-20
It was short and to the point. some of the humor falls flat. I think the concept was interesting and the the author achieved what she set out as far as making characters likable and unlikable. it was worth an hour and a half of my time.

Fun Story!
Revisado: 01-17-20
This was a pretty exciting story that wasn't overly technical but perfectly described the problems involved with time travel. I love how it considered a lot of the mundane things one would actually have to consider to do diachronic operations. Since I work for the government, the bureaucratic communiques were frustratingly delightful and familiar. I would definitely recommend the book.

I didn't make it twenty minutes in
Revisado: 11-07-19
It seemed to start with an interesting hook, and then devolved into rambling. There was entirely too much cursing and the characters just seemed annoying more than funny or clever. It is rare that I don't finish a book, even a bad one, so I thought it worth my time to write this instead of finishing it.

Historia
We are familiar with maps that outline all 50 states. And we are also familiar with the idea that the United States is an "empire", exercising power around the world. But what about the actual territories - the islands, atolls, and archipelagos - this country has governed and inhabited? In How to Hide an Empire, author Daniel Immerwahr tells the fascinating story of the United States outside the United States. In crackling, fast-paced prose, he reveals forgotten episodes that cast American history in a new light.

Grievance Studies Comes to History
Revisado: 11-07-19
The book is decent. It's a critical review of American history overseas. The book focuses on the negatives of American policy in its possessions. I understand the importance of addressing the issues, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth as it seems to simply be a laundry list of the US doing bad things. Honestly it seems like the grievance studies ideology has come to US history and is trying to make you feel guilty for the actions of our nation. Granted, there are legitimate crimes, but every country has broken its own codes and fallen short of its own ideals. The study of history should to learn from the great and the bad, to lead us to a better future or at least a reflection on history's impact on our lives, this book falls far short of that.

Historia
When reading and writing are the most important things in the world. Jevick, the pepper merchant's son, has been raised on stories of Olondria, a distant land where books are as common as they are rare in his home - but which his mother calls the Ghost Country. When his father dies and Jevick takes his place on the yearly selling trip to Olondria, Jevick's life is as close to perfect as he can imagine. Just as he revels in Olondria's Rabelaisian Feast of Birds, he is pulled drastically off course and becomes haunted by the ghost of an illiterate young girl.

Worth a Listen
Revisado: 03-07-17
The story wasn't what I expected from the review that lead me to acquire the book. However, I enjoyed it for the most part. There were times I thought the story meandered too much and I lost interest, but other times I was very interested. The narrator was fine I guess. I just finished a book before this with the fantastic narrator Michael Kramer, so I'm a little biased. Sometimes I thought the language was too flowery and contrived, but it is after all a book about the love of reading. In all, I would say it's worth a listen.

One of the best so far
Revisado: 02-22-17
So far this has been one of my favorites in the series. I love the subtle play of ignorance women that all three main characters have and think the others don't. It was a little slow at the beginning but I found myself liking more as it went on.

In AD 1119, a group of nine crusaders became known as the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon - a militant monastic order charged with protecting pilgrims and caravans traveling on the roads to and from the Holy Land. In time, the Knights Templar would grow in power and, ultimately, be laid low. But a small offshoot of the Templars endure and have returned to the order's original mission: to defend the roads of the world and guard those who travel on them.

Fun story
Revisado: 10-07-16
I thought the story was pretty good. Neat universe that blends some history with myth and magic. No solutions ex machina as so many generic fantasy books are wont to use. This isn't my typical genre but it certainly held my attention and I would read the next installment if there is one.

Historia
Dante's Divine Comedy is considered to be not only the most important epic poem in Italian literature, but also one of the greatest poems ever written. It consists of 100 cantos, and (after an introductory canto) they are divided into three sections. Each section is 33 cantos in length, and they describe how Dante and a guide travel through Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso.

Wonderful Performance
Revisado: 09-27-16
The narration was great and I especially liked the background noises at the beginning of each canto. It was a little difficult to follow in places, being poetry, but that was more a deficiency in the listener than the performance. I would heartily recommend it.
