inconsistencies not as well written as the other 7
Revisado: 03-05-25
i have read in order from beginning. I find this one not as well written as there are inconsistencies. I should have made a list if i known there would be a few. the biggest one is calling out the girls names. when Rhys (i am listening so i am assuming this is the spelling - my last name is Reese, my fathers family from Wales and the name was changed at Ellis Island - of course) and Katerine ( again not reading so spelling of names will be off but the audio actor pronounces Kat or Cat erine not kath or Catherine) when they are looking for girls they are walking the area yelling their names, they even say why not because of the area. at the end with 35ish minutes to go we have Rhys and Warlow and eventually others just looking through this new found area with lots of hiding places and no one is calling their names. I am yelling at listening device ' yell their names'
Also this book more than others i found the characters confusing, maybe too many of them. and of course for an american some pretty complicated Welsh names. I started to write in the notes on my phone (listening device) what i thought was spelling and where these characters were from - location in book. and then the stupid podcast people with more names.
I think the audio actor was i little harder to understand in this book. I read a lot of UK mystery thrillers and I am pretty good with accents but admittedly Welsh and Scottish are the hardest.
one thing i do love is when Gil or Warlow says a phrase in Welsh, I like the way the author lets us subtly know the meaning by saying that phrase in english followed by indeed or like phrase. Not that I will remember it but its great to know what was said I am to the next book

Historia
When the body of a missing tourist is discovered slain in the foothills of the Cuillin Mountain range, it falls to D.I. Duncan McAdam and his small team to discover how he came to be there and who would have a motive to kill him. The summer season is a welcome distraction following a brutal and challenging winter. The Isle of Skye is booming with a revitalised tourist trade after a tough few years, and the Misty Isle is on course for its best year for visitors on record. But one person has not received the warm greeting the islanders are famed for.

way too characters all jumbled up
Revisado: 12-12-24
There are authors that can have a slew of characters and write their story in a way to keep those characters organized, easy for the reader to follow along. Dalgliesh is not one of them. Even side stories get jumbled up. I know Angus King is supposed to be well liked but I found many of voices irritating to listen to, Charlie especially. About 75% of the books I listen to are from UK authors and therefore UK audio actors. I enjoy that because it puts the listener right into the story. I have listened to all 4 in this series basically this last one to see if Duncan finally grew some balls. Not sure I will read a 5th

Historia
Summoned to an abandoned theme park to retrieve a body, Dr. Kay Scarpetta is devastated to learn that the victim is a man she once had an intense love affair with. The murder scene is bizarre, with a crop circle of petals around the body, and Giordano’s skin is strangely red. Scarpetta’s niece Lucy believes he was dropped from an unidentified flying craft. Scarpetta knows an autopsy can reveal the dead’s secrets, but she is shocked to find her friend seems to have deliberately left her a clue.

Revisado: 10-21-24
first I do not like January LaVoy as the narrator. there are hardly any differences in the voices for different characters.
Secondly, why do so many authors including Cornwell feel the need to bring back their nemesis from the dead. Lets be a little more creative please. And, yes a spoiler of sorts, they didn't kill (again) but she's is prison so lets take a wild stab in the dark and say she will be back yet again - and I won't bother reading it.
Can we also get rid Kay's sister Dorothy please!!!! why doesn't someone just tell her to shut up, b-slap her. literally the most annoying character. I would skip 30 seconds just to avoid what she said, because it was never ever relevant to the story or to any thing actually.
And even Marino all these years - this was same ole same ole

Duncan has a decision to make, one that will impact not only his life but the lives of those he cares about the most. Does he have the courage to follow his instincts? And just who is he acting in the interests of... the people he loves, or purely for himself?

terrible 3rd in the series
Revisado: 09-23-24
the first were two were good. But if Scottish police are anything like Dunkin was in this 3rd book pity on them. and i am considering returning it except when you do that your review is deleted. I had already bought number 4 and will be returning it.
So definitely spoilers so you understand. Dunkin does not get to the matter in this book at all, with any one. When a policemen comes knocking at your door at midnight you know they mean business. Davey just talks back and walks all over Dunk. Dunk or Alistair should have spoken up and said what they suspected all along and now know for a fact: Callum has known all along where Finn was and what he was up to. And how dumb is Becky: Alistair and Dunk looking through Callums room and pockets and she says ' what at you looking for" what do you think you daft woman" is she really that naive or just plain stupid.
Even though the above scene is toward the end and very fresh in my mind it was like this throughout the whole book.
The first 2 books Dunk was on the ball, figured things out, stated what he felt and all of sudden he is limp leaf.
I really wanted to like and stick with this series, but this book insulted the readers.
Angus KIng was great as always

Concise. Not a lot filler crap
Revisado: 08-10-24
Got right to the point. Not a lot extracurricular crap. And finally a uk police procedural where no one hides things. Can’t recall titles or characters but so many have a main character that keeps secrets, her or his colleagues are at a distance and no one know much anyone else. I would definitely listen to more in this series I am unfamiliar with the audio actor but she did an excellent job

literally best one so far
Revisado: 08-08-24
Ok I know each one of these Tier One books you read you say best one yet. But seriously this hit the ground running and didn't stop. too much more would be spoilers. As usual - how long do we have to wait for the next one!!! The only thing I could do without in all of the books is his son Jake. joining the seals all the training and now the ever growing suspicions his dad isn't dead. Its a detraction in my opinion and wouldn't be missed if left out. You know what's eventually going to happen and all the bs that will go with it. but it is what it is. Oh and of course the fantastic Ray Porter does his usual exceptional narration.

Worst of the 3 Cornwall Murders
Revisado: 05-17-24
I think I figured it out - these 3 books and especially this one, are for the novice mystery thriller reader. The writer has the characters describing, mentally, the most common of police things. Goes into detail about the suspect is shifting his eyes or fidgeting, I am not going to take up a lot of time describing all the little things a well seasoned MT reader doesn't need to be told. I read all of Sally Rigby series and this is by far the worst. There is nothing endearing about the characters, hardly any humor or if there is its stupid from Billy.
Take Sebastian Clifford Series. such rapport between Seb and Birdy, great humor.
This will be the last Cornwall Murder book I will waste a credit on. and a credit for a 6 hours listen! what a waste when you can get great a great book 10, 11.......24 hours or more for that same credit.

Too much physics but
Revisado: 04-06-24
I am 68. I did not take physics in high school and pretty sure quantum physics wasn’t taught in the early ‘70’s.
I almost stopped listening because I could not wrap my head around the time travel physics in this book
But if you bypass that it’s basically a special ops mission/s. Just go with the flow of the how it’s done
Ray Porter as usual is fantastic.
