Historia
In this transcendent memoir, grounded in tribal myth and ancestry, music and poetry, Joy Harjo, one of our leading Native American voices, details her journey to becoming a poet. Born in Oklahoma, Harjo grew up learning to dodge an abusive stepfather by finding shelter in her imagination, a deep spiritual life, and connection with the natural world. She attended an Indian arts boarding school, where she nourished an appreciation for painting, music, and poetry; gave birth while still a teenager; and struggled on her own as a single mother, eventually finding her poetic voice.

It matters less what you say and more what people hear. Communication is the foundation of leadership, cultures, and relationships. It's at the core of being more fully yourself. Yet communication is one of the primary challenges of our time at work, at home, and online. Honestly Speaking will revolutionize the way you lead, love, and live your life by shifting the way you communicate.

A book I will comeback to for guidance
Revisado: 09-05-19
Any human will benefit from this message. A wonderful reminder to stop and truly listen as you’d hope other will do for you. As a mother, I find this book especially helpful tool in communicating with my teenage son. It brought so much awareness to the way I receive information and respond.
Highly recommended!!

Historia
Dave Holmes has spent his life on the periphery, nose pressed hopefully against the glass, wanting just one thing: to get inside. Growing up, he was the artsy son in the sporty family. At his all-boys high school and Catholic college, he was the closeted gay kid surrounded by crush-worthy straight guys. And in his 20s, in the middle of a disastrous career in advertising, he accidentally became an MTV VJ overnight when he finished second, naturally, in the Wanna Be a VJ contest, opening the door to fame, fortune, and celebrity - you know, almost.

Charming, nostalgic and honest
Revisado: 04-26-18
I was drawn to this book after hearing Dave being interviewed about on the podcast,Getting Curious. I loved Dave’s personality and remembered him as one of the only VJ’s at the time he was on air that I liked. After just listening to the sample I knew I’d love this book. He narrates his journey of self acceptance with humor and heart. I really enjoyed his story and the stroll they music and the budding years of MTV were prolific for me as well! You won’t regret this book.
