Historia
From the outside, Harold is an average seven-year-old third grader growing up in the 1960s. Bored by school. Crushing on a girl. Likes movies and baseball—especially the hometown Boston Red Sox. Enjoys spending time with his grandfather. But inside Harold’s mind, things are a lot more complex and unusual. His thoughts come to him as birds flying through a small rectangle in the middle of his brain. He visits an outdoor cafe on the moon and is invited aboard a spaceship by famed astronomer Carl Sagan.

Steven Wright is a worldly treasure

I love this book ‘Harold’ and how random and wonderful that it is. The dream sequences are hilarious and even thought-provoking at times. I highly recommend reading this book.

Historia
In a plague-stricken medieval convent, a nun works on a forbidden mystic manuscript. In rural South Carolina, an alligator named Dragon becomes a beloved pet for a precocious, tough-talking twelve-year-old. During a long, muggy July, an adolescent girl finds unexpected power as her family obsesses over the horror film The Exorcist. On the outskirts of a Southern college town, a young woman resists the tyranny of a shape-shifting older professor as she develops her own sorceress skills.

Each story is better than the last

I loved the way Julia created these stories. They were all so rich and beautifully crafted. I now have to read more of her works, and can’t wait for future works from her.

Historia
Childhood friends Patricia Delfine and Laurence Armstead didn't expect to see each other again after parting ways under mysterious circumstances during high school. After all, the development of magical powers and the invention of a two-second time machine could hardly fail to alarm one's peers and families. But now they're both adults, living in the hipster mecca San Francisco, and the planet is falling apart around them.

Beautiful story
Revisado: 01-06-25
I love this book so much. The story was beautifully written and left no meat on the bone. Every story beat was used and paid off in big and small ways and made me cry happy and sad tears along the way. I was recommended this book by LeVar Burton while listening to him read a short story by Charlie and then finished with a lovely interview afterwards. I can’t wait to read more by Charlie. Thank you for this story.

Historia
A black swan is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpredictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan; so was 9/11. For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives. Elegant, startling, and universal in its applications, The Black Swan will change the way you look at the world.
