So, this was free on Audible, so I figured, why not? Honestly, I regret the time. The main character, Sunny, was just... dumb. Entitled, had no sense of self-preservation, and all talk with nothing to back it up. She basically is the reason for what happens to poor Earl. And Dover? Supposedly a bad boy, but he felt more like a bragging ex cop pretending to be tough. That whole “rude to women but falls hard for one girl” thing? yeah, couldn’t buy it. It felt like a failed attempt at romance mixed with suspense, but with a lead who couldn’t think her way out of a paper bag? “The Devil’s always gets its due” phrase was over used 🙄 if I never hear it again, it would be too soon…
The characters just bragged about themselves and Aiden Snow couldn’t save this one, I think the only way I didn’t t DNF and thought it would pick up…but honestly? I’d skip this one.

It was an okay read for me overall—I didn’t feel super connected to Tori or Dante, but I did think the parts about the sibling dynamics and the complicated family stuff were really touching. It had its moments.

Okay, so I kind of jumped ahead in the series because honestly, the other characters didn’t really pull me in as side characters. At first I was curious about Travis, but by the end of Book 1, I just wasn’t that interested, nothing major, they just didn’t hook me. So I decided to skip ahead to Reed and Krisney’s story.

It started off strong, interesting and even funny despite the drama and for a while, I was really into it. But then... the dreaded miscommunication trope hits, and for literally no good reason too. It was frustrating because there was already a solid potential conflict with the one crazy B (you’ll know who I mean if you read it), and that could’ve been enough. Instead, the author tossed in this totally unnecessary miscommunication that felt forced, like it was just there to create drama, I mean there was already the 12 years! Sheesh!

Honestly, I almost DNF’d the book at that point because it got so dumb. It also kind of felt like the author was trying to cram every possible thing into this one book. Some parts were still enjoyable, just not as much as I was expecting based on how strong it started.

I won’t say don’t read it or I don’t recommend but I also won’t hype it up as a must-read either. It’s kind of a “meh, up to you” read.
The good news is it’s free on Audible right now, and the narrators did a solid job!

Okay so, I just finished this one and honestly? I really enjoyed it! Is it the best book ever? No. But did I have a good time? 100% yes. The story was engaging and surprisingly sweet…and get this, I actually liked the FMC (I know, right?). She’s sort of an almost-farmer? She’s making a living selling eggs and minding her own business when the MMC shows up, fresh out of prison, with the prison body… and she’s smitten!

Now, before you roll your eyes: yes, it's insta-love, but it's done in a sweet, believable way. And major points because both characters are in their 30s (plus plus) and they actually act like grown-ups. No ridiculous miscommunication trope (which you know I cannot stand). They hit obstacles, sure, but they deal with them like adults, and that alone made it worth the read.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you're on the fence — it's enjoyable, easy to sink into, and it's free on Audible right now and narration is also really good…So really, you’ve got nothing to lose.

The downfall, the side characters didn’t draw me in much… I thought I wanted to know about Travis but changed my mind and decided on Reed’s story, next.

I ended up reading and honestly, I wish I hadn’t but seriously glad I didn’t waste a credit on it. The FMC was so ditsy and frustrating. She was stumbling through life and mad about it, when she hears it said out loud? It was laughable. She did the dumbest things, didn’t think before acting and her whole “appeal” was being pretty because she had zero personality. Like, no wit, no charm, just her having conversations with herself in her head and the only thing she had going was being “beautiful” 🙄

Basically, her only accomplishment was attracting the rich dude—and even that was messy. She tried to be all coy and played the whole “I’m quitting” game over and over like it was cute. It wasn’t. The MMC? Too broken from the past. He’s got trauma, trying to be there for his brother without professional help, and instead of focusing on that, he gets distracted by this pretty, hot mess. Their entire dynamic was push and pull, back and forth, almost the whole effin book…over and over and so annoying!

She never listened to her “boss” pretending to be helpful… she sort of was but it was all to gain love…

I struggled to enjoy the book and honestly, I think my eyes almost got stuck from how much I was rolling them. And don’t get me started on how she was supposedly close to Elia but couldn’t give two sh*ts about the niece and nephew was it because she was getting paid more and had a chance to nag the hot boss? Just... ugh. The self-delusion was the most exhausting part.

Save yourself the time. Not worth it.

I haven’t read a ton of military books, but this one seriously stood out. I loved the lives these characters led. We met Jasper in the previous book, and I’m so glad I came back to read his story. Honestly, it read like real life.

Emily was such a refreshing character, a genuinely down-to-earth, relatable woman who felt like she could walk right off the page and be a bestie in your life.. This was actually the first single mom romance I’ve truly truly enjoyed. Usually, I steer clear because they often don’t make sense or feel inauthentic, like someone’s idea of a single mom, and that idea is usually annoying and infuriating to read. But Emily? She was incredible. Real, grounded, and strong despite everything she’d been through.

Spice-wise, I’d say it’s a 🌶️ (1/5) not spicy at all, which might be a downside if you prefer heat in your romance 😉 But honestly, the emotional depth more than made up for it and I guess made sense with the story line… I wish it was longer (I saw there’s second generation, I might just check those out too 😀).

This can definitely be read as a standalone, but reading book 1 gives you a little extra context. That one was okay, but this book? Not to be missed.

The best in the series…

Okay, first of all, I can’t believe I almost skipped this one! Seriously, what was I thinking?! Shocked at myself, truly. This ended up being hands down the best book in the series. I’m not even exaggerating. I devoured it and now I’m sitting here in a full-on book slump because nothing is hitting the same after this.

Let’s talk about Hans and Cassandra. I LOVED loooooooooooved them. There was no the annoying miscommunication (I HATE this trope), no childish push and pull, and thank goodness none of that cringey “I don’t like him, even though I obviously do” denial. It was just real. Their connection felt natural, grown, and believable. I appreciated every second of their dynamic.

Hans, who we met in the last book (and who totally gorg and mysterious), continues to be mysterious and gorgeous but in a super grounded, non-flashy way. Despite coming from money and carrying a pretty heartbreaking past, he lives a “normal life” with his undercover mission of course AND doesn’t feel the need to flaunt anything. Love a humble king 😅 not to be confused with King …

And Cassandra? I LOVED her!!! It’s been awhile since I actually loved any FMC. She was such a refreshing character. She comes from a supportive, loving family, and she wasn’t written like every other heroine, you know, five-foot-nothing and 90 pounds soaking wet. No, she sounded like a real, relatable woman you could actually picture living next door and being friends with. And even with Hans being tall and gorgeous (because of course he is), they matched. It never felt like one was carrying the story more than the other I enjoyed both POVs.

What also really won me over? Cassandra wasn’t written to be clueless or constantly in distress or the worst, no self preservation in sight… Like when Hans says “duck,” she ducks (I can’t remember if that were the actual words but you get the gist) no stupid drama, no unnecessary questions, no “wait, what?” while bullets fly. She was smart, capable, and kept up with him the whole way. It was honestly so refreshing to see a female lead who didn’t need to be rescued every other chapter.

The story itself was sweet, with just enough danger and mystery to keep things intense, but I don’t want to give anything away. Just know that it had everything I wanted and nothing I rolled my eyes at. I even liked The Alliance togetherness there at the end… (I wonder how Dom felt though that they made him jump hoops but invite Hans to join like it was nothing 😆)

Did I mention how much I enjoyed this book? I didn’t expect it to be this good. And now I need you to read it immediately so you can live it too. Please and thank you.

OMG! This drawn on and ooooooooon… I couldn’t even say angtsy because the girl was really stupid and all she had going was a tiny body 🙄 what was the draw? Immaturity? Any decent conversation was not between them…
I powered through thinking it will get better, she can’t be this dumb, he will smart up… none of those things happened… I don’t even care what happens next, it is a cliffy by the way…

So I finished the book, finally, this one just didn’t hit the same for me. I felt like there was a chunk missing in the story… it hard to connect with the characters.

They started off really intense, but then it felt like that was all they did. Mind you, I love smutty reads and I’m not trying to yuck anyone’s yum here but it would’ve been nice to see them actually do something together. Like, that scene toward the end where she couldn’t sleep after the shit went down and he took her to bed to watch TV.

I mean, he says he loves her at some point, but… when did that happen? It felt like that came out of nowhere, okay maybe it was love at first sight and I could sort of see the confusion and the taboo of it all BUT still didn’t feel the connection… it would have been nice if they didn’t declare it, maybe I’m the only one who didn’t see it? I was confused by the “love,” obsession, maybe?

I love dark romance, and enjoy smutty reads even from the first page and also open to different kinks on page but I don’t know about this one… Raylee’s only positive thing is that she was sex positive and owned that but that was literally it! She had nothing else going for her… Colton was obsessive and controlling including his friends and I guess because he was rich? The friend’s went along?

The LORDS adjacent thing was interesting and I don’t know… I didn’t enjoy this book… I’m going to get Madness, hopefully that’s better.

It just wasn’t what I thought it would be… it dragged on in some parts, I didn’t understand their connection… although I liked FMC in the end… Nate was likable at first…
It was a bit off for me…
