After artist Claire Beaudry Chase is attacked and left for dead in her home on the Connecticut coast, she doesn’t know who she can trust. perfectly captures sociopathic abuse
Revisado: 05-03-25
Rice captures the subtle way some abusers operate. The story is intricate and you get to experience the shoreline and ocean from a wilderness perspective through the character's senses. The acting on this audible is superb.

Hard to believe it's the same author
Revisado: 04-08-25
First of all it starts with a ridiculous spat from
newlyweds that made it no fun to listen to--how immature not to be able to resolve a fight with the person you just married . It didn't seem true to the characters and was a deliberate attempt to introduce conflict but the conflict r made no sense. The complex murder at hand was unique I will give you that but the whole book was utterly unbelievable. And I think it would have devastated a small village and it just didn't seem to. The audio acting was great . But the story just didn't live up to the others by Carlene. Her main characters are usually likable and they weren't in this. Please save the conflicts for the side players.

this is MHC break through book, and the audio for it is fantastic. So much of what she wrote was very new at the time. She captured a world where women were controlled by men so so well.

Historia
Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease - a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease.

Don't get it if 1910's UK does not appeal to you
Revisado: 11-16-24
this would be a great book for someone who loves this period and the stories such as upstairs downstairs . lots of twists and it mostly held my attention. But I cannot understand the relationship between servants and royal families and i can't forget that the wealthy families usually got their wealth by stealing land from ancestors of those they then hire to help take care of it. It's an excellent portrait of this but the political implications not being addressed, the girl just accepting it as her lot, at least when young, kept bothering me. she just accepts things . and the secrets she keeps i also found disturbing. the fact she mostly felt no compunction to tell others truths they deserved to know or could have explored with her (i don't want to give spoilers but definitely a few jumped out at me. ) Morton is a great story weaver but I could not relate to the narrator and that is not her fault. I realize it was part of how she was forced to be and how she felt she gave loyalty and service but it was very odd and frustrating g to me. The plot and subplots were original and fresh but I wished for a more abridged version.

Historia
In Dimpna Wilde’s veterinary practice, an imminent meteor shower has elevated the usual gossip to include talk of shooting stars and the watch parties that are planned all over Dingle. But there are also matters nearer at hand to discuss—including the ragtag caravan of young people selling wares by the roadside, and the shocking death of Chris Henderson, an elderly local, in a hit-and-run. Just hours before his death, Henderson had stormed into the Garda Station, complaining loudly about the caravan’s occupants causing noise and disruption.

Revisado: 07-13-24
I enjoyed the author's "cozy" mysteries and wasn't prepared for the depth in this series They are full of intricate plots, grand Irish vernacular and themes, and complex characters. The narration is as good as it gets. Well done! And I am now addicted to this series!

I went back to this after many years. It is amazing as is Legal Tender. I just love the Mary character and her struggles with Catholicism, possible atheism, and ethics. Refreshing and unique. I wish I had her rich social life and friends. It's how it is supposed to be.
