Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

As a new mother I appreciate the suggestions of what I can do now and what I need to be aware of in myself as my child grows - that my anxieties don't forever impede my child.

Nervous but Optimistic
Revisado: 10-31-22
I'm going to start doing this to see if I can get the health back I have been missing. I see myself declining physically and mentally with only a celiac diagnosis. I don't want to wait longer. I'm hoping this will help me back to how I used to feel.

Historia
It's true that Maria Konnikova had never actually played poker before and didn't even know the rules when she approached Erik Seidel, Poker Hall of Fame inductee and winner of tens of millions of dollars in earnings, and convinced him to be her mentor. But she knew her man: a famously thoughtful and broad-minded player, he was intrigued by her pitch that she wasn't interested in making money so much as learning about life.

Really Enjoyed This
Revisado: 07-13-20
I have probably played about 5 games of poker in my life with a $20 or less buy in. But I very much enjoyed the book. I had hoped for more psychology but there was enough for me to draw my own conclusions as to how the lessons fit into my life.

Revisado: 03-20-20
I heard about this book on the podcast NOT GUILTY, I it was definitely worth the read. unfortunately many people have spent years behind bars for crimes they did not commit and didnt have anyone to come to their aid. thankfully some stories have happy endings, but not all.

Revisado: 12-21-19
I just went on my own and got a couple of books to help get my mind in the right place and get off on the right foot. I really liked the beginning of the book but a huge chunk of The Middle was really focused on large law firms I thought. then had some good information at the end but was not exactly what I was looking for.

A woman disappears on her way to work. A man is convicted of her murder. But this case is different. Though the police believe they have the right man, key components of the prosecution case are missing. There is no body of the victim, no witnesses to the crime, no confession and no physical evidence: no DNA, CCTV or murder weapon.

I learned a lot about the Scottish criminal justice system and the authors did an excellent job of breaking down the evidence of the case. And so sad how many people are in prison for crimes the govt never proved

inspiring and devastating
Revisado: 08-23-19
as a criminal defense attorney I treasure the stories of people who have somehow managed to navigate the barriers against them after re-entry. while this book is inspiring to see how one person can overcome so much and it's also and shamelessly truthful as to the state of our current system and the devastation it imposes on our communities. I wish every judge would read this book before sentencing someone and I wish every prosecutor would read this book before choosing to make someone a felon or add one more conviction to their record.

In this controversial book, world-renowned confidence expert, Dr. Aziz Gazipura, takes an incisive look at the concept of nice. Through his typical style, Dr. Aziz uses engaging stories, humor, and disarming vulnerability to cut through the nice conditioning and liberate the most bold, expressive, authentic version of you.

When Caylee Anthony was reported missing in Orlando, Florida, in July 2008, the public spent the next three years following the investigation and the eventual trial of her mother, Casey Anthony. On July 5, 2011, the case that captured headlines worldwide exploded when, against all odds, defense attorney Jose Baez delivered one of the biggest legal upsets in American history: a not-guilty verdict.

what a defense attorney should be
Revisado: 03-02-19
I listed to the prosecution's perspective of the story before listening to this one. well I don't feel like I know what happened to that little girl I definitely feel that her defense attorney was truly the type of person that all defense attorney should be and in the end his story makes sense and the prosecution's perspective while very interesting fell short of beyond reasonable doubt.
