Great Information, Absolutely Horrible Voice
Revisado: 11-13-19
The reviews warned me, and they didn't disappoint. I am REALLY interested in the material in this book, so despite the poor reviews on the person's voice reading it... I bought it.
The information was awesome. I loved the writing style and how the author delivered the information.
That said, I couldn't listen for more than 1 hour at a time because the voice and inflection of the person reading it (not the author) is awful. This makes me question if readers are even screened at all. I've never had someone's reading voice be so bad that I have to limit my listening time. I guess there's a first time for everything.

From an acclaimed Harvard professor and one of Time’s most influential people, this paradigm-shifting audiobook shows how almost everything we think we know about aging is wrong, offers a front-row seat to the amazing global effort to slow, stop, and reverse aging, and calls listeners to consider a future where aging can be treated.

Very Intriguing
Revisado: 10-16-19
I really enjoyed the majority of this book. In some cases when the author reads their own book it's awful, but in this case I thought it was great. The author's voice is calm and easy to listen too, and hearing it directly from him lends itself to seem more credible than if he didn't read it.
I found the information to be helpful and motivating.
The only reason I didn't give this a full 5 stars is because there was a bit too much self promotion in it for me. I always find it interesting when someone who is already well respected, well liked, and credible still feels the need to self promote. It takes away from the authenticity of it, in my opinion.
That said I followed up this book by subscribing to the associated blog, so apparently the content was enough to overcome the self promotion part of it.

This book is great. I will admit it took me several chapters to get used to the narrator. But once I got over that I really enjoyed it. It's one of those books I'll have to listen to a second and third time. It's nice how it weaves in stories to help you remember the techniques rather than just throwing out the techniques.

I REALLY wanted this to be awesome because I think ONJ is great.
Her voice is sweet and it was definitely the right move having her as the narrator of her story.
But the story itself was pretty boring to be honest. There was some interesting insight but I found myself zoning out in most chapters because there wasn't much. I guess that's a good thing it means generally she has had a calm and comfortable life!

Historia
Much has happened to Gabrielle Reece since her 1997 best seller Big Girl in the Middle. She’s still gorgeous, still 6’3”, and a dominant force on and off the beach, but in the last 15 years, she’s settled down with world-class surfer Laird Hamilton and raised three stunning blonde girls. Her life might seem like a fairy tale from afar, but four years after her picture-perfect Hawaiian marriage to Laird, Gabrielle filed for divorce. In the end, the couple worked it out, but My Foot Is Too Big for the Glass Slipper tells the unvarnished and often hilarious tale of the turbulent ups and downs that beset every wife and mother - even the women like Gabrielle who seem to have it all.

Really Liked It
Revisado: 08-22-19
I really enjoyed this book. I ordered it after hearing her on a podcast and thought it might be interesting to hear about her journey. She is very candid in the book and transparent without being overly dramatic. Her voice is pleasant to listen to which isn't always the case with people reading their own stories.
She's still young so hopefully she will do another edition in 20 years!

Read This
Revisado: 08-22-19
I loved this book. Sally Field's voice is great and I'm glad she decided to tell her own story in her own voice.
Her background is fascinating and interesting. I learned a lot that I didn't know about her and her family and the places she's been. This wasn't overly dramatized or overly name dropping like some celebrity autobiographies. I thought it was awesome.
It's really a story of connections. Read this!

We live in an energetic universe. Our experiences, thoughts, feelings, and even our physical health and well-being are all heavily influenced by the unseen energies within and around us. These energies and thoughts create matter, in the form of tangible ideas, health conditions, and even many of the life circumstances from which we learn and grow.

Nicely Done
Revisado: 08-22-19
I really enjoyed this but I also ordered the book in traditional form since it gives meditation and yoga instructions that I would prefer a physical book.
I liked the storytelling in the last part of the book that helps explain real life situations and how the chakras are impacted.
I rated the performance as 4 stars because even though this book is short, under 4 hours, they didn't bother to fix the mistakes in the reading or the overlay where it didn't match.

Best for trying to decide what diet you're into
Revisado: 08-13-19
I have listened to a TON of pod casts and books on low carb versus other ways of eating. It's all so confusing and every book seems to be trying to convince you to do one specific thing.
If you really like a scientific approach and truly learning about low carb ways of life this is a great book. It was released a while ago so it references websites and things without the realization that smartphones and apps exist. That's the only downside.
That said... if you want to learn WHY low carb diets work and HOW they work... this is for you. The 2nd half of the book is a comparison of a long list of low carb diets/ways of eating that gives specifics on what each plan is and how it's different from the others. I personally really needed that! I know I want to be low carb... but was confused by the different options. If that's you, this is for you.
I found the reader's voice to be pleasant and easy to listen to.

I'm a low car fanatic and I'm telling you this isn't worth the money.
It's VERY short. There is no new information. The reader is not great. At one point he coughs during reading. There are also at least 2 times when he says the wrong words. For example, at one point he says "love" instead of "low" and this was done so low budget that they didn't even bother to correct it. At least one he repeats a line that he's already read. Serioulsy??!! It's very odd that they never fixed this.
Do not invest in this audio book unless this is literally your very first time every asking about Atkins AND you don't mind a reader that doesn't read everything correctly.

For decades we have been taught that fat is bad for us, carbohydrates better, and that the key to a healthy weight is eating less and exercising more. Yet despite this advice, we have seen unprecedented epidemics of obesity and diabetes. Taubes argues that the problem lies in refined carbohydrates, like white flour, easily digested starches, and sugars, and that the key to good health is the kind of calories we take in, not the number.

All of this plus just one thing...
Revisado: 04-09-19
I love low carb living. If you are constantly questioning why low carb diets impact your health and weight, and are a very curious person, this book is for you. It provides the detail that most books, podcast and interviews don't provide. If you want the details, well you came to the right place.
Many of the negative reviews seem to be from people who want to be told what to do without concern for the reasons why. If evidence and reasons and science motivate you... this book is for you.
The reader is very pleasant to listen too. I think he was an excellent choice. I wish every audio book had someone with a voice we can enjoy and that keeps us engaged but not annoyed.
So why only 4 stars do you ask? This book is missing one very important element. It seriously downplays, if not outright states, that calories in general are not important to weight loss in humans. In having done more research than I care to admit, I believe whole heartedly in cutting down carbs to lower blood sugar and weight. BUT, calories also matter. I listened to a podcast with the author recently where he finally, quietly admitted that in quite literally the last minute of the podcast after being confronted with the question directly.
I see no reason we can't promote a low carb diet but also acknowledge the role of calories (whether from fat or carbs) play in weight gain or loss.
Otherwise very good.
