Love this
Revisado: 04-15-25
I loved every aspect of this book. Reads just like a memoir, but better. It really makes you feel that late teenage mix of anxiety and invincibility because you don’t know any better. Very authentic and funny. Narration is phenomenal.

Historia
Are you tired of feeling f*cked up? If you are, Gary John Bishop has the answer. In this straightforward handbook, he gives you the tools and advice you need to demolish the slag weighing you down and become the truly unf--ked version of yourself. "Wake up to the miracle you are," he directs. "Here's what you've forgotten: You're a f--king miracle of being." It isn't other people that are standing in your way; it isn't even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive. It's yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself.

Didn’t connect
Revisado: 04-06-25
I suppose this is helpful for someone with the issue the author is addressing, but my own negative thinking is not really what is holding me back. Probably just the opposite. Was recommended to me, but wasn’t really relevant. There were a couple useful nuggets in here, if I hadn’t heard them before already in other similar self help/motivational material.

Historia
Emery Hazard and his boyfriend, John-Henry Somerset, just want to enjoy the day at the Dore County Independence Fair. At the shooting gallery, though, Hazard comes face to face with one of his old bullies: Mikey Grames. Even as a drugged-out wreck, Mikey is a reminder of all the ugliness in Hazard’s past. And Mikey seems to know something Hazard doesn’t - something about the fresh tension brewing in town. When the Chief of Police interrupts Hazard’s day at the fair, she has a strange request. She doesn’t want Hazard and Somers to solve a murder. She wants them to prevent one.

Historia
When a man hires Emery Hazard to track down a teenager who, he claims, robbed him, Hazard isn’t convinced. The story has holes in it, and the client seems eager—too eager—to keep the authorities from getting involved. But Hazard is willing to play along; he suspects something much darker is going on, and he wants to know what it is. Then his husband, John-Henry Somerset, connects the boy in question to an ongoing suspicious death investigation, and both men realize they’ve stumbled upon something much more complicated.

Historia
After almost 20 years, Emery Hazard finally has the man he loves. But things with his boyfriend and fellow detective, John-Henry Somerset, are never easy, and they’ve been more complicated lately for two reasons: Somers’s ex-wife and daughter. No matter what Hazard does, he can’t seem to get away from the most important women in his boyfriend’s life. While Hazard struggles with his new reality (changing dirty diapers, just to start), a bizarre murder offers a distraction.

I love these two
Revisado: 09-05-23
I love the tension in this series, both in the mysteries and the characters, within them and between them. Very realistic portrayal of personalities, I think, despite them not actually being all that appealing as people a lot of the time. They are both pretty broken to some extent. But they try for each other. Not even sure they are a healthy relationship, but it is well written. I was afraid this would get boring with them finally being together as of the last book, after the long buildup. I really loved the buildup.
One note on the ending. I hope we are not going on a journey of discovering faith. If so, I’m out.

Historia
Insurrection is in the air in the city of Ankh-Morpork. The Haves and Have-Nots are about to fall out all over again. Captain Sam Vimes of the city's ramshackle Night Watch is used to this. It's enough to drive a man to drink. Well, to drink more. But this time, something is different - the Have-Nots have found the key to a dormant, lethal weapon that even they don't fully understand and they're about to unleash a campaign of terror on the city. Time for Captain Vimes to sober up.

Narrator is disappointing.
Revisado: 07-03-23
I am listening to these new versions into order. Have mostly enjoyed the new narration (except for Bill Nighy. did he ever wake up during sessions to record the footnotes?). I’m not a Planer/Briggs purist. (Though they are perfect.)
Until this book. Narrator is all wrong for this sub-series. So dry. And no variety to the voices. No enthusiasm. No energy.

Historia
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

Great narration
Revisado: 02-11-23
I love me some Nigel Planer from the original narration and I can get through the Tony Robinson narration from the abridged version, but as the Wizard/Rincewind sub-series is the least of the Discworld series, and the first two being the least of those (it all started here), I have never been able to make myself focus and pay attention to this sub-series in audiobook form until this version. Clear voice, not manic, takes time to tell the story. I am now much more enthused about exploring the whole series with the new narrations than I was. I love the Nigel Planer and Stephen Briggs versions, and I’m glad that experienced them that way for the first time, but I am looking forward to these new editions now, after a good deal of skepticism when they started coming out.
