Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Great story! Great Performance!
Revisado: 07-26-21
Really enjoyed this book through and through. It's just good sci-fi, well written and the narrator was excellent. He put's emotion into the voice at the right spots, sighs, inflection, ect but he doesn't overdo it (aka "Ham it up")
I have listened to quite a bit of cheap, quickly written sci-fi, and some of it is fairly entertaining. Probably not something I would read, but an enjoyable listen on a long commute to work.
This book is not that, I started this on my commute but the story pulled me in and kept me listening at home and elsewhere. I can easily see myself revisiting this story in a few months and going for the ride again.

George Orwell's classic satire of the Russian Revolution is an intimate part of our contemporary culture, quoted so often that we tend to forget who wrote the original words! This must-read is also a must-listen!

Hard to listen to
Revisado: 02-01-21
The writing is full of fluff, an author showing off their vocabulary. Some authors can pull that off, and maybe it would be okay if reading it in print, but matched with the readers haulting delivery I found this audio book painful.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Great Performance, Fun Story
Revisado: 01-31-21
Certainty not an original plot. Don't get me wrong, I didn't feel like this book was a rip off of anything else I've read. The basics of the plot are honestly not all that original.
However, the story is great, I laughed frequently, found the characters interesting and believable, and enjoyed the story thoroughly.
I just finished the first and I'm very excited to see where the story goes, I'm invested in the characters.
There is one particular item I want to heap praise on the author for. A "strong male" who cries, not in a hidden room keeping his tears secret, a man who cries in front of his peers. It wasn't pushed, but it was noticeable and I appreciated it. I'm tired of macho leads in this particular genre who can't shed a tear because it would make them look weak. The lead in this story felt like a real human being, someone you could root for, flaws and all.

A unique story, looking forward to the next
Revisado: 01-12-19
A very interesting idea on aliens and how first contact would go. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.
The jumping back and forth of timelines made the story a bit confusing at times, but it was tied together nicely in the end. I think it would have been easier to follow if I were reading the print version. Regardless I would reccomend, it's a fun ride.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

i have had this book on my to read list for years but bendry seemed to get around to it. This was an amazing book with layers I haven't even had time to really dig into, I'll have to get a print copy.
The narrator was skilled and performed the art in his own masterful way.

Main Character Is Boring
Revisado: 08-16-18
When your main characters only real challenge is understanding nuances of the English language the story suffers, sure the main character has many challenges to fulfill his vow and protect his "friends", but he is so stupidly good at everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, that all the challenges are a breeze for him.
The twist of this super elite warrior getting incorrect final orders was entertaining for a few chapters, but it wore thin and so did the story. I'm glad to see a lot of people love this type of OP main character, but it just isn't for me.

Interesting View Into The Eyes of a Prisoner
Revisado: 08-13-18
I really enjoyed listening to this story, the chapter endings were a bit abrupt sometimes, I feel like they could have been transitioned better.
Besides that small criticism I'm happy with my purchase and I'll be getting Jail Time when it becomes available on audio book, or I might just purchase the paperback. The writing was fair and the story both eye-opening and engaging, most importantly it felt honest. The author didn't make himself out to be big, tough, or accomplishing incredible feats, and he recognizes that the support of his family made all the difference. Attwood shared some very personal feelings of fear, stress, depression, and learning the culture behind bars.
