Wanted to love it…TOO CONVOLUTED

Every time a new person was introduced a part of me died inside because it was yet ANOTHER reason to rewind and figure out what was happening! It’s taken me a year and I’ve finally decided to give up on this book. Everything in the first 8 chapters could have been covered in 2 and I skipped chapters, hoping things would get better And if the storyline wasn’t excruciating enough, the accents most certainly make it worse. I will give her other books a chance since I’ve heard those were better.

One of the most beautiful stories I’ve read in a long time

Simply beautiful. A journey of love, loss, and grief …and everything in between. The narrators just made a beautiful story even more so. Well done.

What in the…?!

The story is easy to get into because the writing is great. But I just need this author to write women that are confident and not dumb. I guess that’s why it’s fiction, but I struggled to connect with a female EXECUTIVE that was THIS silly and insecure…or someone that would really be OK with who Donovan is at his core.

Riveting and Traumatizing All at The Same Time

The first installment of the book was amazing and the cliffhanger made me want to rush to buy the next. But Ruin…ruined it for me. The writing was good and the story started out as riveting and entertaining… but as an abuse survivor, it was traumatizing in so many ways.

I won’t spoil it because again, it’s entertaining and Shane and Elena do a great job with their performances. But This is a warning for those who have survived psychological abuse… it MAY trigger you.

Gutted and Delighted at the Same Time

As someone who has a mother that suffers from Lupus, Neva’s story was especially meaningful to me. But the rich history and regard for who we are and the cloth that black entertainers have been cut from was extremely inspiring and unexpected. I hope this is made into a movie. It deserves to be celebrated—just like the unsung artists that time forgot.

She writes “the forbidden” so well.

Suspenseful, Steamy & Sexy

Never disappointed

Her stories and depiction of blackness never disappoints. Black people deserve to know and dram of people and experiences that don’t always embrace trauma. Alex does this with every story…every word.
