If you enjoy transcripts of repetitive interviews with everyone repeating the same stories, this is for you. The first part of the book where its actually a biography is pretty good, but then it changes over to nothing but transcripts of interviews with everyone repeating the same kinds of stories. I don't read bios for transcripts of interviews, so I was very uninterested at this point. I have 6 hours left on the book and probably won't finish it. I also watched the documentary which features the exact same interviews, so there really isn't any need for both. The book is a letdown.

No time is spent on character development to get you into the characters, and instead the first chapters are spent with stereotyped, one dimensional characters that we aren't given any means to relate to or care about. Representations of Native Americans which only a non-native ignorant to the actual cultures would write... I wasn't looking for an accurate historical representation, but just a good western. Unfortunately this is just too all around simple for my tastes.

Went into this prepared to love it. I don't mind raunchiness or non-PC stuff - I am generally looking for darker stories that are rooted in real life stuff, so this sounded great going by all the reviews. I only made it 5 chapters and I am returning the book. The general character of the writing is like someone's "funny" dad decided to be a writer, and I guess all the people that love this book are probably 50+. This kind of writing just seems bad & hacky...

Having been a longtime fan of Mike Clelland's podcast, Hidden Experience, I was very much looking forward to hearing him read his latest book in audio format. The book itself is excellent, along with the original Messengers, and listening to Mike present it is a special treat. Would love if he also did The Messengers as an audiobook and even though I've already read it, I would definitely listen to an audiobook version as well. Mike has the perfect kind of voice and way of speaking for presenting this material in a thoughtful and sensitive way, and in the absence of new Hidden Experience episodes, this is a welcome addition to my audio library.
