Nothing appealing about any of it! AWFUL!!

It is a book about vampires and magic. That is the only nice thing I can say about the whole dang thing. The cover of of the book says it's an Adult Vampire Romance. Don't think that's because it is steamy but because they're trying to convince themselves, the entire book from start to finish is juvenile. It's awful, I mean a really bad book. I might not have disliked it guite so much if I had read it but listening to it, the narration was horrendous on top of a bad book. Narrator was not monotone, just extremely unsuitable. We had a female heroine with a male narrator who did not try, at all, to change the gender in his voice. His accents were comical. Needless to say, there will be no more books in this series read.

Best BDB book in awhile

Drug a little here and there but it had a little more meat to it than a lot in series lately. Excited Lassiter might finally get his story.

Surprisingly good

I don't mean to sound derogatory in that statement but I have never read a "Mafia" book or anything from this author. I gave a four star on story only because of Lucy repeating things three times in her head was a little annoying. Narrator was very good. It won't win a Pulitzer but is a light enjoyable read. I have already bought the next book on series.

Don't know which is worse...

the story or the narrator. Let's begin with the narrator who sounded like even her regular voice hurt her to use. It hurt me to have to continually hear her mispronouncing words. She had SOME good variation in her voices but they all sounded like she was in pain. Then the story. Granted this is a fantasy but if you are setting your story in and around a real, and well known castle, do some research. There were no cloth curtains, tea, pastries, distilleries, well-organized lists, or good smelling lairds in the 16th century, to mention just a few things that irritated. I gave up completely when a group of servants carried supplies for the soldiers when they went out to protect the village. Then of course the soldiers ran off leaving the servants unprotected so Anna could save them. Then she lived through giving the laird a tongue lashing. Oh please! we won't even go into her and her problems but if she called herself a woman warrior one more time.... ugh. Don't beat the dead houseguest! Guess it is evident I really disliked this book and don't plan to read anymore in this series. Don't waste your credit. I'm going to go ride my horse, maybe I can find him a good friend so my husband and I can ride side-by-side holding hands. Yes she really wrote that.

Very Disappointing

I always call these books, filler books. They're like something an author turns out to fill their contract. There's no depth to the story or characters. This one was really disappointing. Dont think I will read book 2 of this series. Narration was bad too. Narrator kept pausing after every sentence and had a really bad female voice.

I really wanted to like this book but....

I had the worst trouble getting through this book. The heroine was a complete boob. Her lack of self-confidence and esteem was a complete turn off and she was completely shallow. Even in my 20's I did not get drunk every waking moment especially during the work week. Magnus was at least interesting. Was a good premise for a book but I am afraid it did not deliver. I will not be reading anymore in this series.

Very, Very Disappointed!

I almost did not finish this book. It was an ordeal to listen to. This is not my favorite series of author's but I did enjoy the first two books. This one is terrible. I enjoy a good sex scene, which this author writes well and often in her books, but this book is 14 hours and 41 minutes long, probably 2 hours 41 minutes is story and 12 hours sex scenes. The story is not too good either, the whole first half of the book is the first day and night they met. Narrator did an excellant job as usual. But as I said, very disappointing no matter how well read.

Best book I have read in awhile. Good story line, well written, well narrated and likeable characters. Definitely reading next book in series. It is definitely worth a credit!

Cut the end of your book off much?

Sorry just did not care for this book at all. First, what was with the narrator's whispery voice. He actually would not have been bad if he used his regular voice. Hated narration with that voice. Heroine was not at all likeable, spoiled brat with no redeemable traits. Hero okay but really, a "Warlord" led around by a spoiled brat. Really struggled to get through first half of book, it picked up in second half then just ended. Just like that. Will not be reading or listening to anymore in series.
