Historia
In an astonishing feat of empathy and narrative invention, our most ambitious novelist imagines an alternate version of American history. In 1940 Charles A. Lindbergh, heroic aviator and rabid isolationist, is elected president. Shortly thereafter, he negotiates a cordial "understanding" with Adolf Hitler while the new government embarks on a program of folksy anti-Semitism.

Wonderful, awesome writing, great story telling. And premonitory.

Wonderful, awesome writing, great story telling. Most difficult to digest but reflective of Roth’s genius was that his story, as an alternative to the America of World War II and the events the preceded WWII, appears contemporary to the America of 2025, Trumps America, and how America is in the hands of a Russian asset.

Historia
Sigmund Freud revolutionized the way in which we think about ourselves. From its beginnings as a theory of neurosis Freud developed psychoanalysis into a general psychology, which became widely accepted as the predominant mode of discussing personality and interpersonal relationships. Anthony Storr goes one step further and investigates the status of Freud's legacy today and the disputes that surround it.

Of course psychoanalysis has changed, evolved and developed even since this book was first written. Yet, the ideas, the context and the story of Freud, an extraordinary man, is worth listening to and learn from.

Historia
Maroda asserts that an enduring blind spot arises from clinicians' ongoing need to deny what they are personally seeking from the analytic process, including the need to rescue and be rescued. She equally seeks to remove the guilt and shame associated with these motivations, encouraging clinicians to embrace both their own humanity and their patients', rather than seeking to transcend them. Maroda confronts the analyst's tendencies to favor harmony over conflict, passivity over active interventions, and viewing the patient as an infant rather than an adult.

Awesome analysis of the therapists (and analysts) vulnerabilities
Revisado: 07-25-23
I really appreciated the authors attempt at holding us therapist accountable for our own reality testing and our easiness to try to find comfortable and undefinable “technique.” I also appreciated the authors focus on being genuine, authentic and well trained. As well as her advocacy for the importance of the therapists’ involvement in their own treatment and continued supervision as part of being professionals of our craft.
It was difficult to listen to the book because the narrator appeared more like a computer generated narrator then a real person, it was pretty awful, especially for this kind of book. This is so common with Audible books that it makes me wonder if they are cutting corners in terms of performance.

Great summaries about fundamental concepts
Revisado: 06-12-23
I loved how concise and well explained most psychoanalytic concepts were presented. Psychoanalytic concepts are sometimes difficult to understand but this postcast manages to present them in ways that can be easier to digest.

Historia
Unconscious bias: persistent, unintentional prejudiced behavior that clashes with our consciously held beliefs. We know that it exists, to corrosive and even lethal effect. We see it in medicine, the workplace, education, policing, and beyond. But when it comes to uprooting our prejudices, we still have far to go. With nuance, compassion, and ten years' immersion in the topic, Jessica Nordell weaves gripping stories with scientific research to reveal how minds, hearts, and behaviors change.

An awesome book about understanding unconscious bias and how to end its powerful grip on our behavior.
Revisado: 10-10-21
This is a well researched, awesomely written, deeply sensitive and compassionate book. It provides a firm and well documented approach to deconstructing our unconscious bias and a how to becoming more aware and compassionate individuals and communities. “We can do this!” Statement kind of a book. But don’t be deceived, the stories are also deeply painful, yet the book is bold in giving hope for a way out of the hell we have created for ourselves by avoiding to examine, understand or just hide from, or ignore our unconscious biases.
We can heal, reach peace and live harmoniously in our communities, we just need to be bold, have the courage and the humility to implement her recommendations and ideas.
Reading this book will help us become wiser and more hopeful about what we can do about our unconscious bias.

The most important book I have read in my life span.
Revisado: 09-08-20
The Greek classics, the masters of the renascence, the classics of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries have never open my eyes like this book. This is my generations classic, this is my generations Enlightenment book, this is my new Encyclopedia on race that finally makes me feel like I “know” something that can make a difference, that truly matters, that can make me a true human, instead of an animal with a bigger brain, with the ability to destroy anything and “conquer” everything. I want to be an anti-racist and anti-capitalist. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to truly understand the system that for 500 years has oppressed other humans for the sake of a few power hungry minority humans, meanwhile keeping the rest of us asleep or numb to the reality of the system. Dr. Kendi masterfully describes the real “brave new world” we live in. He does not Invite us to follow him, he invites us to ask questions, wonder and desire to wake up from the slumber that is making us passive or active cooperators with the system of oppression, that exploits not only other humans but also the earth we live in, to the point of near self-annihilation. Please read and wake up, is time to act, to know, to stop the system that separates us from each other for the benefit of a few.
