A classic, a story of justice through a childs eyes
Revisado: 03-29-25
I liked it all in all, but was not totally taken. Perhaps because it was through a 8 year old girl POV.

A realistic slow burn with “nice guy”!
Revisado: 02-13-25
I liked it! Feel good slow burn. A long book and not much happened but the characters were realistic and didn’t annoy me!

Historia
Aside from the fact that they are brothers, Peter and Ivan Koubek seem to have little in common. Peter is a Dublin lawyer in his thirties - successful, competent and apparently unassailable. But in the wake of their father's death, he's medicating himself to sleep and struggling to manage his relationships with two very different women. Ivan is a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player. He has always seen himself as socially awkward, a loner, the antithesis of his glib elder brother.

A realistic view of brothers in conflict
Revisado: 01-23-25
The narrator is great! I love the chapters from Ivan’s point of view and his love story. Peter is a complicated fella and sometimes difficult to feel empathy with. And the women are in the background. On purpose? Especially Naomi.

Historia
A child who will be named Johannes is born. An old man named Johannes dies. Between these two points, Jon Fosse gives us the details of an entire life, starkly compressed. Beginning with Johannes's father's thoughts as his wife goes into labor and ending with Johannes's own thoughts as he embarks upon a day in his life when everything is exactly the same yet totally different, Morning and Evening is a novel concerning the beautiful dream that our lives have meaning.

Historia
This is Jon Fosse’s critically acclaimed, luminous love story about Asle and Alida, two lovers trying to find their place in this world. Homeless and sleepless, they wander around Bergen in the rain, trying to make a life for themselves and the child they expect. Through a rich web of historical, cultural, and theological allusions, Fosse constructs a modern parable of injustice, resistance, crime, and redemption.

Amazing narration, and what a book. Funny and sarcastic, dark and deep about people in Paris
Revisado: 06-17-24
The crown princess of Norway recommended this book in an interview so I bought it. Wow. I can’t believe this book came into my hands through a royal tip, because it’s so far from that world as possible. It’s written so well, the language is amazing. And so funny, great quotes. But also so dark. So many interesting but also unsettling characters. Right wing extremists, LOADS of horny old men, arrogant people judging their neighbors, and then there’s Olga at the end. My favorite. She made me laugh but also made me melt. This is really worth your time. The English narration is great. What a good job he’s done. And what a writer VD is. Looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

A good read and Great narrator
Revisado: 06-11-24
En titt inn i livet til en liten jente utsatt for omsorgssvikt som må klare seg selv og hennes reise i livet. Noen ganger litt enkel. Men gjør at det er lett å lytte? Ingen store overraskelser. Ikke spennende som krim. Fin grei historie, glad jeg kjøpte den. Blir investert i hovedrollen.

This book predicts the decline of today's professions and describes the people and systems that will replace them. In an Internet society, according to Richard Susskind and Daniel Susskind, we will neither need nor want doctors, teachers, accountants, architects, the clergy, consultants, lawyers, and many others to work as they did in the 20th century.

A real eye opener for a 20th century lawyer
Revisado: 04-13-24
I came across this book while making a presentation for my law colleagues where I was to speak about the future of law and AI. This book changed my view and I am now much more pessimistic about the profession as lawyer 30 years down the road! Richard Susskind gives really interesting perspectives. Reccomended for lawyers wanting to look to the future.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Amazing performance - a bit too much «sciencey»
Revisado: 10-08-23
Wow Ray Porter is just amazing. Worth the listen in it self. The story is also good but big chuncks of the story is him explaining science stuff. I’m just not that interested 😅 But other parts of the story is amazing and especially because of Ray Porter. Worth the buy but zoned out a bit for the hours of (fake) science explanations.
