I'll preface this by saying that I was not really a fan of the first two Metro books. I thought the first one was overhyped & seriously lacking in story, & in the grand scheme of the trilogy, the second book was almost completely irrelevant & accomplished virtually nothing. I believe Glukhovsky is an excellent world builder, but not a great story teller.
That being said, 2035 had the strongest story of the three books. I appreciate that Glukhovsky finally stopped explaining his world & let the story & characters shine. Each of the three books had a different theme &, of the three, this one's theme (A convenient lie is easier to swallow than an inconvenient truth.) seemed the most poignant & relevant.
& as always, Rupert Degas did an excellent job narrating. In my opinion he is one of the best audio book readers out there. He's so good at creating different voices for all the characters, that you sometimes forget it's been the same person reading the whole time.

Chris O'Dowd & Nick V. Murphy are comedic writing geniuses & O'Dowd has 1 of the most entertaining voices of his time. Though I loved the Moone Boy TV show, I think I enjoyed the book even more. My only complaint is that it was too short. I hope they write more.
In conclusion, is this technically a children's book?
I... suppose so...
Am I a full grown man who absolutely loved listening to it anyway, & may even listen to it again?
You better believe it!

Dmitry Glukhovsky is a superb world builder, but his story writing leaves much to be desired.
I was a bit disappointed in the first book, but I decided to continue on because it seemed as though Glukhovsky had decided to use the entire first book just to introduce the reader to the characters & the world of the Metro. The problem is, though, in the second book most of those characters were abandoned & replaced with completely unlikable ones. The new primary protagonist now being an elderly, selfish coward, accompanied by a painfully gullible girl, a completely unhinged psychopath, a pathological liar, & featuring an almost completely meaningless cameo by Artyom. Almost nothing was actually accomplished throughout the entire story & it seemed as though Glukhovsky was just making it up as he went along.
The only reason I've even given the audio book 3 stars is because of Rupert Degas' excellent narration. I swear, that man could verbalize the process of paint drying & I would probably be captivated all the way through.
I will likely listen to the third book, only because I bought the trilogy together & don't want it to be a complete waste of money.

Degas' narration was very good.
The story seemed a bit slow, weak on plot, & somewhat scatterbrained at times. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt, though, because I get the feeling Glukhovsky just used the whole first book to introduce the reader to the world of the Metro & to pave the way for the actual over-arcing plot of the series.
Overall, I'd have to say this book, standalone, was a bit of a disappointment, but it shows promise for the series.

An excellent story highlighting some of the more nitty-gritty details revolving around Native American relocation (the "Trail of Tears") & the fight for Native American rights.

The narrator was excellent also. Armando Duran has a very smooth, steady voice that's easy to listen to for long periods of time. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more books narrated by him.

Overall, I definitely recommend this audiobook.
