Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

It's an interesting story with a lot of themes. I honestly don't understand what any of the movies creators read, bc it has little in common.

Boring, unskilled writing
Revisado: 12-16-24
This story is overrated.
The setting is both overcomplicated but no differentiated. Despite trying to set up three different cultures, I had trouble distinguishing difference between the characters.
The author does a lot of "this and then this" telling style. Random time-skips that does nothing for character development.
The plot elements are banal. There is way too much build up, it's super long, and everything wraps up disappointingly fast.
Narrarator was not great. Little distinction between character voices.

Historia
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

I don't get the hype
Revisado: 12-16-24
ok so I already know this is rated lowest in the series, but this book is so boring I have no interest about the rest.
It's my first King novel and my opinion of his writing is quivalent to RL Stein. This book is written at a 4th grade level, with plot to match the rambling of one.

Historia
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.

Amazing. Lots of Growth from Author
Revisado: 04-25-23
The story is really great. Sorta similar to Jonathan Strange...
Lots of allegory to technology and modernization in the real world. And then just frank discourse on race and colonialism. Some uncomfortable comparisons on how it is different, systemic, and more harsh than sexism. Just good philosophical discussion using fantasy.
Fun magic system. The best book for your linguistic friends and history buffs.

Good but a drags a little
Revisado: 12-19-22
Good middle book to a trilogy. But from the beginning we establish what the climax will be. then after awhile it just feels like we are dragging to get there.
Otherwise good character development. your like some people and hate others more. I actually think there are only 2 decent people in the whole world of this story. I'm be glad to see pretty much every one else get killed.

Historia
Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th-century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trades she uses to get by - palm readings, zars, and a mysterious gift for healing - are all tricks, both the means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles and a reliable way to survive. But when Nahri accidentally summons Dara, an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior, to her side during one of her cons, she’s forced to reconsider her beliefs.

Historia
The story that made Agatha Christie famous ends with one of her most dramatic twists. The villagers of King’s Abbot are shocked when a wealthy local widow commits suicide and the very next day her fiancé, Roger Ackroyd, is stabbed to death. Dr. James Sheppard, the local physician, discovers the body of his friend and narrates the ensuing hunt for the killer. All the guests and staff at Ackroyd's country house seem to have solid alibis - except for his missing stepson.
