Historia
The Age of Surveillance Capitalism is neither a hand-wringing narrative of danger and decline nor a digital fairy tale. Rather, it offers a deeply reasoned and evocative examination of the contests over the next chapter of capitalism that will decide the meaning of information civilization in the 21st century. The stark issue at hand is whether we will be the masters of information and machines or its slaves.

She’s got a point of view that she’s happy to share
Revisado: 08-01-22
Well written with lots of big words and the occasional scholarly reference.
The author has a point of view that she’s happy to share; namely, that the ability of big data to extract information about people and their lives is uniformly coercive and totalitarian.
I’m not saying she’s wrong but, surely as we humans migrate towards the “hive mind“ there have got to be some beneficial aspects of ubiquitous computing, instantaneous communication and total information.
I’ve always said, the baby boomers invented these technologies and our children will need to figure out how to best live with these technologies.
My final conclusion?
This book does a great job of laying out the evils of the surveillance state and the inadequacies of capitalism to extract value from data.
She also exquisitely describes the lack of protection for consumers from the FANGS.
If you’re looking for a balanced narrative however, this is not it.

Historia
In Wealth, Poverty, and Politics, Thomas Sowell, one of the foremost conservative public intellectuals in the country, argues that political and ideological struggles have led to dangerous confusion about income inequality in America. Pundits and politically motivated economists trumpet ambiguous statistics and sensational theories while ignoring the true determinant of income inequality: the production of wealth.

A Review of Thomas Sowell
Revisado: 04-18-22
“If you’re not liberal in your youth, you have no heart. If you don’t grow conservative as you age then you have no brain”
Thomas Sowell is a black American political scientist who is critical of lower class “ghetto” street culture.
The under-representation of black Americans in income, academics, and demographics are primarily due to culture, not racism, according to Sowell.
He can say this, and not be labeled a racist.
Soul is also critical of the typical, Ivy League “intelligent Sia“ that is something so critical of private business interests.
Sowell ascribes no malice of forethought to businesses who fail to hire or promote black Americans who embody the Ghetto culture simply because they are unqualified and do not perform as well as others who may be described as white, Asian or Latino.
Sowell also predicts further class struggle if “identity politics” are allowed to determine the redistributive nature of American government in the near future.
I listened to this as an audiobook rather than read it as a physical copy.
Highly recommend it!

too much English. They switched voice actors from male to female which made the rules very difficult to follow overall I would not recommend this book

best Spanish video ever!
Revisado: 09-22-15
for me, this has been the best learning tool I've ever used. It requires an intermediate level of pronunciation and vocabulary which is where I am. this may not be for everybody but this is absolutely the best money I've ever spent on a Spanish learning course book audio or video
