My girlfriend and I enjoyed it
Revisado: 12-10-24
Good book with some good twists some of the erotic scenes could have been better but if you don’t want them going too much into that stuff it’s a nice balance.

Narration from protagonist was awesome
Revisado: 05-22-24
I enjoyed the book and the perspective of the main character. Wish they would have gone more into the fighting on Prospero other than that it’s a good read and offers a lot of perspective on the Wolves.

Another amazing book by Cook
Revisado: 04-22-23
While I understand it is some of the earlier works of Cook in relation to the Black Company which I discover first, I love this series. It teases the world in a way that allows the reader to ponder and gives enough to have a good understanding of the world and the consequences of events.

Revisado: 01-24-23
After finishing his Black company series, or atleast reading the last book out had to find some more of his fantasy works, this did not disappoint. Very much an adventure story, the next books are more bellicose, grim dark, and grow in complexity.

Historia
As Soldiers Live opens, Croaker is military dictator of all the Taglias, and no Black Company member has died in battle for four years. Croaker figures it can't last. He's right. For, of course, many of the Company's old adversaries are still around. Narayan Singh and his adopted daughter - actually the offspring of Croaker and the Lady - hope to bring about the apocalyptic Year of the Skulls. Other old enemies like Shadowcatcher, Longshadow, and Howler are also ready to do the Company harm.

Truly a treasure
Revisado: 08-19-22
If you have read all the books leading to this one I urge you enough to finish it. If you are reading out of order or just found a passing interest in the title or whatever fortune may have lead you to read this well you have found a treasure without even looking. Start from the beginning.
For those whom have follow read the books of the company.
An amazingly artful end, Glen Cook is one of the most under rated authors I have read. I have to say with this being the end to the Black Company I feel a sort of melancholy. Almost like I actually lost real people but I am sentimental.

My love for D&D novels restored
Revisado: 06-25-21
Other D&D writers I have read ( R.A Salvatore ) pale in comparison to the writing of this novel it is captivating and well done.
A lot of times trilogy’s might lull or need an extra push to get through the second book but this is not the case here, great read.

Great read
Revisado: 06-18-21
The author was good, I think we was saying rather main character name incorrectly but that’s fine. The story is great, just what I a high fantasy lover and enthusiast wants from a book. The mix between a party of hero’s right battles fought is great and it is written in a way that makes you long for more. If you like elves, dungeons and dragons, or high fantasy in general this is a read for you.

Historia
The soldiers of the Black Company don’t ask questions, they get paid. But being “The Lady’s favored” is attracting the wrong kind of attention and has put a target on their backs, and the Company’s historian, Croaker, has the biggest target of all. The one person who was taken into The Lady’s Tower and returned unchanged has earned the special interest of the court of sorcerers known as The Ten Who Were Taken. Now, he and the company are being asked to seek the aid of their newest member, Mischievous Rain.

Over all great story
Revisado: 04-18-21
If you don’t want a length explanation here is the quick and dirty, the narrator really bothers me I like the person who did the first to book far better his voice is mor captivating and more so goes with the tone of the book. Secondly FINISH THE BOOK, you would do yourself a disservice by not finishing. Longer explanation below.
I kept asking myself what is the point of this interlude ? Why do does Cook take a backward in the story to explore a stop at Aloe and while interesting what is the point of showing us a glance of the so talked about domination?
As I read or rather listened I began putting things together but this story is something that you have to ride out, a slow burn if I use the term correctly. Before finishing the book I would have rated average interesting but ultimately out of chronological order a disappointment and would have said the Cook wasn’t as good as he use to be. But with the ending it brought another aspect the the master of story telling Glenn Cook. I was going to give the book a 3 of 5 fir story but finishing the book really made it for me.
As far as the narrator he seems professional but I really feel in love with the person that narrated the first two book his voice is captivating and he is more closing what I imagine the in book narrator to sound like and overall is a better performer in my opinion.
