Creative and interesting
Revisado: 12-15-24
Really enjoyed this book. The story caught my attention right away and held it. Great characters and conflicts. I love how the author expresses himself-vivid images and powerful descriptions of dramatic and intense events without descending into profanity or vulgarity.

Great story, good characters. F-bombs galore!
Revisado: 11-04-24
I’ve listened to many Davis Ashura books and I’ve always liked them. I liked this one too, but why in the world did the author add so much profanity?! This book had so many unnecessary f-bombs I almost returned it! They add nothing to the story and offend some of your audience so why add them?! I probably won’t buy the next book-I’d love to hear the story, but don’t love the cursing!

Great book-just read it!
Revisado: 01-23-24
It’s got everything I love in a book and none of the stuff I hate! Loaded with action, adventure, great friendships, interesting magic systems, characters who change and grow but stay true to their core beliefs! I loved it and I would let any of kids listen.

Great book, creative and entertaining
Revisado: 10-25-23
I really enjoyed the story. Lots of admirable and interesting characters. I love that the story covered many exciting battle sequences and emotional moments without ever getting gory or explicit. Not even any foul language until the third book and then only a little. Definitely will be listening to more from this author.

Historia
To the forest on the shore of the Kingdom of the Isles, the orphan Pug came to study with the master magician Kulgan. But though his courage won him a place at court and the heart of a lovely princess, he was ill at ease with the normal ways of wizardry. Yet Pug's strange sort of magic would one day change forever the fates of two worlds. For dark beings from another world had opened a rift in the fabric of spacetime to being again the age-old battle between the forces of Order and Chaos.

Exactly what I want in a novel!
Revisado: 07-05-23
An entertaining story with likable and interesting characters. Action, adventure, sword and sorcery, friendship, duty, love, and a little romance. No gore, sex, or obscenity. I read this book several times as a teenager in the 1980s and loved it! I liked the audiobook just as well now. My only minor complaint is that the reader often puts emphasis on the “wrong” syllable so words I’ve pronounced countless times in my mind sound wrong i.e. El-VAN-dar instead of EL-van-dar.

Different than the preceding books.
Revisado: 08-29-19
It is fairly obvious that this book was written long before the preceding books. In the other books Horacio’s character steadily develops from midshipman to captain but then regresses in this book and suddenly has new habits (such as the annoying “uh humming” and hesitation and self doubt during action). I found myself missing the Hornblower from the preceding books. But, as always, Christian Rodska’s performance could not be improved upon. A really wonderful performance.
