Dark and delightful
Revisado: 10-07-19
I seriously enjoyed this. Not just the story, but the narrators ability to get the tone and tenor just right, while delivering her performance.
But fair warning, if you don’t enjoy a deeply dark and probably twisted, (dripping with a healthy amount of sarcasm) sense of humor, you’re probably not going to like the book. I just so happen to enjoy it quite a bit.

Historia
Working as a dedicated forensic psychiatrist for many years, Emma is not shocked so easily. Then she is assigned to work with Connie, a wife and mother accused of a despicable crime. Connie is suffering from dissociative amnesia - or at least seems to be. Now it is up to Emma to decide whether Connie can stand trial for her sins. But there is something about Connie that inexorably pulls Emma into her orbit. Too Close is a masterfully written riveting listen about the powerful - yet dangerous - closeness between women.

Absolutely worth it!
Revisado: 09-17-19
I often go back and forth, between reading books myself, and listening to Audible; many times, I’ll forgo an Audible version of a book I am excited or interested in, because of a narrator (Some people should NOT be reading anything aloud IMO). This books 2 narrators were absolutely fantastic. Both were able to convey specific mannerisms, of each character, and it was truly enjoyable.
The story itself would have also, completely captured me, had I read it on my own. The author did a great job at diving into each characters personal stories, dark and sarcastic humor, in the case of Connie; and a more timid and cautious personality, in the case of Emma.
Both women had their own internal wounds, and battle scars, from life having its way with them.
I absolutely enjoyed every bit of the book. And I will absolutely keep this author on my list of those, I’ll look forward to reading more of, in the future.

Great Great Great
Revisado: 07-03-19
It has been a very, very long time, since I’ve enjoyed a book this much. The writing is fantastic, the narration was perfect for the character, and overall the story was very relatable (though, not every unhinged idea that pops into your head, should be acted on). I truly enjoyed the fact that the emotions Mia went through, were spot on, and for that very reason, I laughed out loud at several points, and could completely (sadly) relate to the gut wrenching pain, of loving and trusting someone, so securely, that you don’t even think it is possible, that they could look you in the eye, and lie to your face; smooth as butter. When in fact, it’s margarine.
There are some stories, that can only really come across with this much impact, if the storyteller has lived through it themselves.
I wouldn’t call this one a psychological thriller, at all. Just a completely relatable, and a totally addicting read.

I thought I knew...
Revisado: 10-18-18
Really well developed storyline, characters, and plot. Nearing the end, I thought I’d had it all figured out, and was almost disappointed that the ending was going to be another rush to finish, leaving loose ends, and too many unanswered questions. And then there was another sweet twist, to wrap it all up, and pull it all together.
Excellent narration, and even several witty remarks that had me giggle.
I’ll be looking for more from Sue Watson, and Katie Villa.

Historia
Jane Campbell avoids confrontation at all costs. Given the choice, she'll always let her husband, Leon, a best-selling thriller author, fight their battles. She'd prefer to focus on the good things in life: precious days with her two young children, a steady and loving marriage, their mischievously playful cat Bonita, and her fulfilling job as a creative-writing teacher. In Jane's eyes, life is altogether sweeter than any individual bump in the road. But when Leon suffers a brutal attack, Jane has to finally face reality.

Finally a book that held my interest
Revisado: 10-13-18
I’m an avid reader and audible listener, and for the past several months, I haven’t been able stick with anything. No matter the genre, the author, or the narrator. Everything was just so bland/been there done that/or the same story that has already been written 10 times before...
This novel finally grabbed my interest, and held my interest right up to the very end.

The climactic buildup, fizzled at the end
Revisado: 09-03-18
I really enjoyed the book all the way through. Good character establishment, and what felt like would be useful, and good detail and insight to the ending. However, that wasn’t really the case. Sadly, the big mystery revealed was so anticlimactic, that I actually had to go back over it again, to make sure there wasn’t more somewhere, hidden in the text, that I had missed.
This is just my opinion, of course; but the “big reveal” was a bit more of a “big let down”.

Really good, but far too long.
Revisado: 03-16-18
I really enjoyed the book overall; there were only a couple things that bothered me.
For starters, the narrator; she keeps a good, up tempo pace, moving the whole thing along, however, she does this strange inflection with her voice, to make (what I assume) is a strained or cracking noise, to provide emphasis on a point, or dialogue. The problem is, it ends up sounding a bit like a weird Christopher Walken impression.
The storyline itself, is good, it’s just far, far too long.

Susie did something that she knows she will always regret: giving her baby son up for adoption, to keep her infidelity secret from her family. Louise, Susie's daughter, feels the effects of that decision echoing down through the years - her mother has always been difficult, too strict with her but not strict enough with her sister, Grace, who is wild and out of control. And Danny, Susie's husband, adores her but has always sensed something wrong at the heart of their marriage.

Kerry Fisher is absolutely marvelous
Revisado: 02-25-18
After reading my first Kerry Fisher novel, I immediately looked for more. She has a way of writing that is completely relatable to the human spirit. This one is no different. A full range of emotions, internal conflict, and a wonderful understanding of the complexities, and dynamics of every family.
I’m sure I’ll be recommending this one to family and friends for years to come.
