Historia
Luke Tavares has dreamed of joining the vast gaming guilds of the hypernet. After recently graduating high school, his parents have given him the same ultimatum as his siblings: He has one month to get a job to pay for his air, gravity, and water aboard the Dahlia. The freighter needs more hands, but Luke doesn’t want to be a trader-ship engineer. In Sphere World, he can mine asteroids, build bots, and make weapons to fuel the system-wide war between nodes.

good find
Revisado: 04-21-23
I was surprised to find a book of such quality with so few reviews. it kept me engaged throughout even if the battle scenes were a bit drawn out, confusing, and often times unnecessary. for example, the author spent over an hour in a simulated battle that seemed to have no baring on the plot, was just used to throw in lots of action. all the comm chatter was confusing and distracting. but overall, creative tactics and interesting plot arc. ending was a bit predictable for me, but others might not have seen it coming. narration was great!

Historia
In the not too distant future, on a decaying space-station from a high Venus orbit, a cantankerous and disgraced scientist awaits the delivery of a mysterious shipment. He hopes to use it to invent a new propulsion system and, in doing so, salvage his reputation. However, the station’s decommissioning crew, led by Chief O’Connor, are skeptical about his plans. They believe them to be nothing but drunken delusions, a theory which seems more than plausible given the bold and outlandish claims he has been making of late.

knew the future but was still surprised
Revisado: 06-08-21
this is probably the most complicated and predictable book ive ever listened to. and that's a good thing. dont be discouraged because you think you know what's going to happen. despite knowing how it will end/begin, i continued to listen and kept being surprised. we take it for granted, but authors are the real time travelers, able to move forward and back throughout the story to make the plot come together. this book is a great example of what an author can do with enough time and planning. great plotting and great writing. highly recommend.

Historia
New Liberty City, 2134. Two corporations have replaced the US, splitting the country’s remaining forty-five states (five have been submerged under the ocean) between them: Stellaxis Innovations and Greenleaf. There are nine supercities within the continental US, and New Liberty City is the only amalgamated city split between the two megacorps, and thus at a perpetual state of civil war as the feeds broadcast the atrocities committed by each side.

glad I took the chance
Revisado: 05-11-21
I took my chances on an unrated book based on the description. I'm glad I did. This book was very well written, excellently narrated, and suspenseful almost the entire time. I could see someone making a movie out of it one day, something in the same vein as Hunger games.
Don't pick it up expecting a litRPG, because the VR game has a relatively small role in this book, which is mostly about fighting back against an all powerful corporation which controls everything. I think my least favorite part was the last hour and a half. I had to suspend my disbelief more than once when it came to character and corporation motives, and the ending didn't resolve the major conflicts of the book.

When itinerant cave diver James Tighe receives an invitation to billionaire Nathan Joyce's private island, he thinks it must be a mistake. But Tighe's unique skill set makes him a prime candidate for Joyce's high-risk venture to mine a near-Earth asteroid - with the goal of kick-starting an entire off-world economy. The potential rewards and personal risks are staggering, but the competition is fierce, and the stakes couldn't be higher. Powerfully inspiring hard scifi
Revisado: 04-26-19
I've read hundreds of sci-fi books in the past few years and this is perhaps the first time I've taken the time to write up a detailed Audible review.
I highly enjoyed almost every aspect of this book. Not only was the narration perfect for the characters, the effort put into the writing of this book really shows. Hard sci-fi is a difficult genre to write. It takes many hours to calculate orbits, masses, and research all the chemistry and biology. Daniel Suarez did his research. As a scientist who's done a lot of the same research for my own books, I can vouch for the authenticity of most of it. He didn't just strive to make the science accurate and persuasive, he made every character's job, from congressman, cave-diver, to space lawyer as authentic as possible. It's that authenticity that makes it so inspiring. By the end of the book, he really did convince me of potential (and difficulties) of astroid mining. More than that though, he's plotted us a way to do it. Like Arthur C Clarke and other futurists' writings, I think this work will inspire many future space entrepreneurs.
My only complaint is the sheer number of characters. It was difficult to keep them all straight. Still, it was easy to develop a strong connection to characters that were well developed. I was brought near to tears several times throughout the book.
So, in summary, I highly recommend this book for people who like smart sci-fi and aren't afraid to learn something. It might just change your perspective of the universe and humankind's place in it.
