Historia
In 1717, it was a time of darkness, where stations kept to their own and people struggled to survive. A time where pirates still roamed the seas, slavery was suffered, and ignorance reigned supreme. But there is coming a greater darkness that man can't hope to fight - a darkness that will consume every soul on earth. One young girl named Eve, born with a mark on her hand, outcast and abused, learns that she is the chosen one that must stop the rising evil. The last of a known race who protected the world, she must fight a horde of demonic hell hounds, demons, and her worst fears.

switch and bait....this a romance novel
Revisado: 05-18-20
I could tell right away that there was something weird about this audio book. If you are looking for a horror book then do not by this one. Audible should be ashamed for such deceptive practices. This is actually a romance novel. If you look up the title of this book you will find it listed in the romance section under another authors name. This female author is using different pen names to sell the same book. The description of the book has been changed slightly. But the plot and characters are all the same. A very dishonest author. I can always tell whether the author is male or female. Each gender has a definite style of writing. Many women will also use initials in place of a first name when they author a book . I think books written by men in certain catagories tend to sell better. Another crappy book bought on Audible. Am about to make the jump to Kobo. Seems like I am getting burned on more and more purchases on Audible.

Tried to listen to this several times. Managed to get about 2 hours into story before I quit. Not into self abuse...and thats kinda what it feels like when listening to this boring saga. None of the characters are interesting. Plot is very disjointed. Was very disappointing as all the other Dept. Q books are very good. I think everyone is allowed to lay an egg occasionally. This one is definitely that and then some.Ugh!!!

Surprised by Christ combines an engrossing memoir of one man's life in historic times and situations from the Six-Day War to the Civil Rights Movement to the Jesus Movement in Berkeley with an examination of the distinctives of Orthodox theology that make the Orthodox Church the true home not only for Christian Jews, but for all who seek to know God as fully as he may be known.

Could not finish this audio book. The first time I tucked into this audio book I lasted about 10 minutes. I then waited several days. Eventually I talked myself into giving it a second shot. I lasted about 30 minutes. Was all I could take. Firstly, the narration is horrible. Probably the worst Audio book narration from Audible.com that I have ever experienced. (and I have a lot of audio books from them) The narrator sounds like he has suffered numerous strokes. His pronunciation is somewhat slurred and unclear at times. The author also spends an inordinate amount of time recounting his upbringing. Coupled with the the poor narration and the tedious time spent describing street ball and neighborhood sights and smells.......the book was a real disappointment. Shame on audible.com for using such a poor narrator. It really killed the book from the beginning. Kinda makes me wonder if they did that on purpose. A lot of anti-Christian people around.

There are tales of Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings. The story told in this book is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but which were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World.

The narrator does an excellent performance. Considering all the ludicrous names he has to pronounce. It's like listening to the Cliff Notes of some biblical drama. Very dry, unfamiliar, and detached. A good book to exchange if you get the opportunity.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Several hours into this book and was still waiting for it to improve. Sadly it appears that this book is nothing more than a book about gifted individuals using their "gift" for murder and serial rape. I think the author of this book needs some mental therapy. Possibly a lobotomy. If he thinks in-depth descriptions of serial rape and murder are what makes quality writing. Well... He needs to find another profession.
What was most disappointing about Dan Simmons’s story?
Rapes and murder every few pages. Pathetic!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
He seemed proficient at his job.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
None. Totally offensive content.
Any additional comments?
Can't believe Audiobooks would stoop to putting this on their site for purchase. I take it that money is the only moral and ethical standard of audiobooks.

Historia
Daniel Martin has never forgotten his childhood encounters with Frank Watkins, the man who built his family a summer home out of cardboard and plywood. Frank's gaze was oddly confusing, as if he was attempting to discern the proper way to behave because he didn't know how to respond in a human manner. Since Frank obviously wasn't an alien, young Daniel thought maybe the man was crazy. In the end, Daniel would learn the terrifying truth about Frank Watkins. And as an adult, Daniel is about to discover there are more of them out there.

Started just a bit slow. But picks up after about 40 pages. The more I read the better it got. Had a really unusual twist. Great read overall. Unfortunately, the ending is a bit of a fizzle. But assure from that it still is worth the time.

It's difficult to imagine a nation with a history more compelling for Americans than Russia. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, this was the nation against which we measured our own nation's values and power and with whom war, if it ever came, could spell unimaginable catastrophe for our planet.Yet many Americans have never had the opportunity to study Russia in depth, and to see how the forces of history came together to shape a future so different from the dreams of most ordinary Russian people, eager to see their nation embrace Western values of progress, human rights, and justice.

Cliff notes of Russia
Revisado: 03-18-17
It's basically an Audible version of Cliff Notes. Pretty short on particulars. This Steinberg fellow is basically giving a rapid and somewhat superficial overview of Russian history. Lacks any depth. Really fails to dig into all the information that could have made this a very good lecture series. Disappointing

Many of us know the Black Death as a catastrophic event of the medieval world. But the Black Death was arguably the most significant event in Western history, profoundly affecting every aspect of human life, from the economic and social to the political, religious, and cultural. In its wake the plague left a world that was utterly changed, forever altering the traditional structure of European societies and forcing a rethinking of every single system of Western civilization: food production and trade, the church, political institutions, law, art, and more.

Was really looking forward to hearing this course. I only managed to get thru about an hour. The topic and the narrator just do not go together. The topic is serious and somewhat dark. The narrators voice is that of a preschool teacher. She sounds like she should be reading children's stories. It really just becomes too distracting not to mention annoying. In the future I will definitely take advantage if a sample of the course is offered. Lesson learned for me.

I wish that this book was around when I was first delving into Buddhism. This book is a must read for anyone. Wether you are a student of Buddhism or just curious. The author lays out the Dharma and so many of the basics of Buddhism in way that is clear to understand and digest. I look forward to getting my paws on more material by this Sangharashita fellow.

I have seen a number of selections by this "Oslo" individual. So I thought I might take a look-see and listen. This guy wastes no time in letting you know how his way is vastly superior to that of the Buddha. Unfortunately, the author continues to remind you at every turn of the superiority of his way versus that of the inferior way of the Buddha. Obviously this fellow is on quite the ego trip. I dare say he wouldn't make a large pimple on the enlightened behind of the Buddha.
