A wonderful story, with a great narrator. The Last Unicorn, written by the same author, was a favorite of mine in childhood, which is why I chose this book. I was not disappointed.

Very good story, but the narrator is terrible. Through the dialogue I could tell the characters were meant to be likeable, but the voice acting is awful, and the emotional tone consistently wrong.

The narrator sounds too old

The story is excellent, and the narrator does a great job reading it. Unfortunately, her voice is much too old for the character. Lauren is 15-18 years old. The narrator sounds like she is at least 40. I had to keep reminding myself how young Lauren actually was.

needs to be sped up to 130%

I started this book and couldn't go on with it for more than 5 minutes because the narrator was unbearable. I went back to it a few months later, after I'd discovered the fact that you can speed up the sound.
Once I sped the narration up to 130% it was actually very good.

Very odd naration

There's a main narrator, and voice actors. Sometimes the voice actors play the parts of the characters. And sometimes the main narrator reads the whole things, including the character parts. This changes around randomly.
I can't figure out what the point of doing it this way was, but it was annoying.

good story, bad narration

The story is good, but the narrator does a terrible job. He's actually very good at reading the actions and descriptions, but he reads the characters so badly that it's hard to connect to them. I felt I had to ignore the narrator to enjoy the characters.

I felt bad for the narrator

The story was wonderful, but for some reason they decided that since it takes place on the border between Poland and Russia, it should be narrated by someone with the appropriate accent. Which is ridiculous, since the story is in English anyway.
The narrator had a difficult time reading this, and it was clear that she struggled with some of the words. It felt to me that she was trying so hard just to say everything correctly that she had a hard time voice acting.
But since the story is so good, it was possible just to enjoy that, without letting the narration spoil the experience too badly.
