Great story, great narrator, keep them coming!
Revisado: 10-15-23
I love these stories, but particularly the,way the narrator performs them. my only complaint is that they are not coming fast enough!!!! 😉

stories may be good but the narration is terrible.
Revisado: 12-11-18
I think the stories may be intereting but i found it very difficult to follow. th e choice of a woman narrator is rather weird in itself given that the first person narrators are male and she makes no attempt to make a male voice. but that is not the main problem. she has an irritating way to accentuate the last word in sentences. and not much variation else. its almost like a robot reading. very irritating.

Historia
An early life of poverty exacerbated by the death of his parents in his early teens helped to cruelly mould the young Jerome. After early stints on the railways, as an actor, a journalist, a school teacher, a writer, and a solicitor's clerk he had some minor success with a collection of comic personal essays On the Stage - and Off about his earlier stint as an actor. Shortly thereafter he married and his honeymoon on the Thames became the inspiration for Three Men in a Boat.

fun collection of stories
Revisado: 12-10-18
If this was anybody else's work it could be said this is a great collection of stories. Jerome k Jerome sets such high standard that this one is not at the top, but still very very good and worth the listen.
this collection includes:
the absent minded man: what happens when you invite one to dinner😄
minor poet story: first this appears to be a chauvinistic story but don't stop, J makes fun of everyone!
the lesson
the man who went wrong
the cost of kindness.

Jerome K. Jerome is of course known for the hilarious adventures of “Three Men in a Boat”. He also wrote many short stories and essays that have all the wit, whimsy, and wisdom of his more famous work. The essays in this volume were published together with “The Diary of a Pilgrimage” in 1891. They are: “Evergreens”, “Clocks”, “Tea-Kettles”, “A Pathetic Story”, “The New Utopia”, and “Dreams”.

wonderful collection.
Revisado: 12-10-18
Jerome K Jerome is as always a master. he makes you laugh while making you think. the stories i listed on the cover.
evergreen: an ode to steadfast people, with interesting insights into training bulldods😂
clocks: on the quirks of such instruments, (if you think the topic is outdated I'll have you know our two cell phones tell a slightly different times!)
tea kettles: yep, j can make this into an interesting topic!
a pathetic story: a writer's problems writing such.
a new utopia: a must read for anyone dabbling with socialistic notions, a scarier story than all the ghost stories.
dreams: legs are disturbing people from getting to their seats in the theater so why not check them in, and other uninteresting nightly experiences.😂🤣😅

there didnt see to be as much comic relief in the one than in the previous ones so it made for a duller story. still a good read.

Pennsylvania Antiquarian Society president Nell Pratt gets some unexpected news that rocks her foundation. Two members of a local neighborhood rescue program, Tyrone Blakeney and Cherisse Chapman, inform Nell that her society owns an abandoned row house in a rundown area of Philadelphia and they insist on taking her to see the property before its date with the wrecking ball. But soon after they arrive at the house, Cherisse is fatally shot and Tyrone is badly injured. The police believe it's just random violence in a bad neighborhood, but Nell thinks there's more to it.

not really a mystery but a good book.
Revisado: 11-11-18
as the protagonists are not actually solving a mystery, this can't really be categorized as a mys tery book,. however, the story is good and the subject interesting. th e characters are compeling and likeable as always in th is series so it is definitly a good read though a bit Pollyannish. still im an optimist so i liked it.

Historia
Welworth Garden City in the 1940s is a forward-thinking town where free spirits find a home - vegetarians, socialists, and an array of exotic religious groups. Chief among these are the Children of Osiris, led by the eccentric High Prophet, Eustace K. Mildmann. The cult is a seething hotbed of petty resentment, jealousy and dark secrets - which eventually lead to murder. The stage is set for one of Inspector Meredith's most bizarre and exacting cases.

idiotic story. painful to listen too. narrator ok
Revisado: 11-05-18
this book was recommended to me so i made an effort and listen till the end. i find no readiming quality to it. the story is idiotic the charaters range from weird to dull. and not in any good way. there is some clear attempt at humor which is lame at best. i had to drag myself to t e end. the narrator did a hood job. its a shame they wasted his time.

Revisado: 08-09-18
i loved the first book. this one was extreemly boring. except for the end which i will not spoil. nothing interesting or unexpected happens. the end is unexpected... and highly unlikely. i may try t e third book just so i didnt suffer through this one for nothing but if nothing happens there...
