Historia
James "Jim" Davis lived what he considered "an impossible dream" as he piloted a B-24, as part of the 8th Air Force, on nearly 30 missions in the European Theatre during World War II. In this memoir, Davis offers heart-wrenching detail concerning the difficulties of qualifying for the U.S. Army Air Forces pilot program, the strenuous nature of the pilot training program, the anxiety caused by a wartime marriage, and the dangers of flying combat missions over Nazi Germany.

Gloriification of the war
Revisado: 01-29-25
Jim really endured a lot of difficulties and surviving the bombing of many people in factories. War is not a good thing and it should be recognized as a failure. This book gives the impression of one person who was very patriotic. From his perspective doing the right thing. However, there were people on the ground who were killed and many the planes did not survive.
War should always be recognized as a failure. An evil thing that people sometimes try to make look good.

Historia
With the epic sweep of Min Jin Lee's Pachinko and Yaa Gyasi's Homegoing and the lyrical beauty of Vaddey Ratner's In the Shadow of the Banyan, The Mountains Sing tells an enveloping, multigenerational tale of the Trần family, set against the backdrop of the Việt Nam War. Trần Diệu Lan, who was born in 1920, was forced to flee her family farm with her six children during the Land Reform as the Communist government rose in the North.

The complexity of war
Revisado: 11-12-24
Is this story warriors were on both sides of the battle with justification. The government turned different parts of the family against each other with their government propaganda. We can see how governments distort the truth and make people believe things that at least untrue.
This book tells us about how war affects everyday people. Everyone is a victim in war.
Also, there is a lot of description about how mobs and malicious who are sometimes official and sometimes not official destroy order and breakdown society. Hun’s family house is taking over by a mob of communists who are inspired by the government to take from the rich who have things they don’t deserve and who exploited poor people. So you see the corruption of communist society, and also of the bribe and corruption in the south Vietnam.
One other perspective that I never knew, was that a lot of people from the north went south to avoid these communist mobs. They were justified by seeking to preserve private property rights And the right to work hard and build a life for yourself and your family.
Such a great book

Historia
For eight weeks in 1945, as Berlin fell to the Russian army, a young woman kept a daily record of life in her apartment building and among its residents. The anonymous author depicts her fellow Berliners in all their humanity, as well as their cravenness, corrupted first by hunger and then by the Russians. A Woman in Berlin tells of the complex World War II relationship between civilians and an occupying army and the shameful indignities to which women in a conquered city are always subject—the mass rape suffered by all, regardless of age or infirmity.

Rarely has this side of war been expressed.
Revisado: 08-05-24
Who suffers in war? This diary told by a young woman in Berlin as the Russians approach in April, May, and June of 1945, shows that all people suffer. This perspective is rarely seen in all the depictions of war.

Historia
By chance and not by choice, Ted Mundy, eternal striver, failed writer, and expatriate son of a British Army officer, used to be a spy. But that was in the good old Cold War days when a cinder-block wall divided Berlin and the enemy was easy to recognize.

Ending was the best

I was a bit confused by the characters and their loyalties throughout the story but at the end you I warned about the media who often gets it wrong.
