Historia
Though The Arabian Nights are generally known as stories for children, they were originally tales for adults full of adventure, sexuality, violence, and the supernatural. They certainly inspired the imagination of Sir Richard Burton, the 19th century explorer, linguist, and erotologist who brought all his worldly experience and superbly expressive prose style to bear on the tales of Sindbad the Seaman and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.

Bowdlerized abridgment
Revisado: 02-17-24
Richard Burton made a full translation which scandalized Britain ( and sold our many printings )
This recording by contrast cuts out all the parts that made it popular

Historia
Just before her 40th birthday, Gail Francis quit her perfectly good job and set out to hike one of the great trails of the world. Carrying everything she needed on her back, Francis spent five months walking from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific Crest Trail. Along the way, she lost her pack scrambling over scree in the desert, struggled to navigate high mountain passes, and wore the soles off her boots trekking across lava fields - all within some of the most pristine wilderness in the nation. Though she set out alone, her story includes an eclectic cast of characters.

Good story marred by politics
Revisado: 02-12-23
I’ve read dozens of distance hiking books and this one is typical of the genre without bringing anything unique. It is marred only by the political comments that increase as the journey progresses
Finally put it down when author began an anti-Cracker Barrel lecture

Historia
Beginning with B. F. Skinner and the legend of a child raised in a box, Lauren Slater takes us from a deep empathy with Stanley Milgram's obedience subjects to a funny and disturbing re-creation of an experiment questioning the validity of psychiatric diagnosis. Previously described only in academic journals and textbooks, these often daring experiments have never before been narrated as stories, chock-full of plot, wit, personality, and theme.

If you would have told me that in the year 2020 I would stand at the White House podium and communicate with the American people as COVID-19 ravaged the globe and violent protests beset the nation, I would have told you that you were crazy. But Jesus Christ had this very plan for my life.

I was led to believe she’d reveal more about Trump’s faith and the faith of the Trump White House in general
Also expected more about her battles in the press room
Very surprised that she still seems to believe in Pence !!

Historia
"The Great Gatsby", F. Scott Fitzgerald's third book, stands as the supreme achievement of his career. First published in 1925, this quintessential novel of the Jazz Age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story of the mysteriously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted "gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession," it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.

Radio abridgement
Revisado: 12-01-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Advertised as "unabridged" this radio play is heavily edited. Nice narration for children but it leaves out a great deal of text.
