Seriously, this is set in Ireland and all the characters are Irish but there isn’t one word spoken with an Irish accent in the entire book except for a “ta” and a “da.” Steven Crossley (and where was the director?) took one line too much to heart, that Adam left boarding school with a BBC accent. He sounds disdainful, superior, and snotty throughout. The character is 31, maybe 32, but sounds much older, has no sex appeal, and remains entirely unsympathetic throughout. Adam/Rob deserves better. The writing is terrific. I’d say read the book instead. And hear it in your own head with a lovely Irish lilt.

Gorgeous writing, brilliantly employing sarcasm and sympathy, but not in equal doses, tilting toward the unsympathetic, but all delicious. Yes it’s gossipy, but the dirt is insider dirt thus has a weight I didn’t expect. Narration perfect! Brown sounds the perfect notes of disdain when needed. Fans of the late Queen and the monarchy need not fear. Brown is a fan of many. 🇬🇧

Beautifully written, gorgeously researched, always interesting. The author creates such a human and sympathetic Nichols that a perfect stranger/listener can mourn his loss.

Smart, excellent writing, superior narration(s), wonderfully paced, beautifully observed (the characters' movements, gestures, pauses felt authentic--such a good eye at work here.) Though there are twists and eventual revelations in the story (who is good, who is bad, who did what), I never felt manipulated. Highly recommended.

Fascinating, even mesmerizing—and I say that as someone who lets her listening lapse and often loses interest before the book ends. Not this time! Besides being beautifully written, it’s honest, we’ll-paced and (especially if you already love this family) endearing.

Read by Franken himself, natch; delivery perfect. I found the book fascinating, funny and honest. He skewers those he doesn't respect and/or like in a most satisfying manner! Particularly interesting is the long, grueling first run for his seat. If you already like Al Franken, I daresay you'll love this book.

I wondered if it would be painful to revisit the Trump victory, but this was a great experience. The author's voice and attitude is just right --bold but never arrogant, honest about the ups and downs and some humiliations she endured during her 500+ days on the campaign trail. I particularly appreciated that she doesn't sugarcoat her opinions. When I heard her pronounce the word "epilogue" I literally groaned with disappointment that it was soon ending.

Bravo! I couldn't (in the audio sense) put it down, and hope for a sequel. I recommend this eye-opening, poignant, heartfelt, honest memoir wholeheartedly.
