Historia
Lennox Kennedy is beautiful, loud, and the love of my life. She's also my ex-girlfriend. The first time I saw her after ten years apart, I slammed into the plexiglass minutes before our game was set to begin. The second time I threw up. The third time's a charm apparently because as my fiancée and I walked into an appointment to meet the woman hired to plan our nuptials—there she was again. Obviously, I did what any smart man would do—I called off the wedding. I don't have a plan per se, other than winning back the only girl I've ever loved.

Not enough was explained, made it confusing and her annoying
Revisado: 04-08-25
It may be a stand alone plot wise, but there are SO many references to other characters and books that I kept feeling like I was missing something or playing catch up. I always felt behind.
The dialogue is all over the place. If you knew all the characters and backstory maybe it would be endearing and cute, but when you don’t it’s just confusing trying to keep up. I was the only one not in on the joke.

DNF. Characters behavior didn’t make sense
Revisado: 04-07-25
I can’t say what that was without giving spoilers, but I just couldn’t listen after the FMC screwed everything up. I guess she had to in order to lay the foundation for the rest of the book but I refuse to get behind behavior that makes no sense as a plot device.

Historia
He’s the billionaire Beast of Calico Cove, and I’m his sacrificial lamb…I mean, his new employee. Malcolm Bettencourt is a recluse with a nasty scar across his face and a bad attitude. He has a bone to pick with my family over a loan my dad can't pay back, so to save our lobster business, I agree to be his live-in housekeeper and cook. We have nothing in common, and there’s no reason to think he would want anything to do with someone like me. Except I can’t stop thinking about him, and he can’t stop looking at me.

90% female POV; male narrator’s female = intolerable
Revisado: 04-03-25
I could have embraced the fairy tale thing if not for the other issues
I just get tired of starting these thinking I’m going to get the dual POVs and then find out there’s only a token minute here and there of the male POV
Samantha brentmoor is my favorite female narrator. Her male voice is the best.
The male narrator normal voice is great but his female” voice was absolutely intolerable, fingernail on chalkboard. Like a spoiled 12yo valley girl with a cold. A caricature of the most annoying female you can imagine.
Since the character herself behaves like a brat it makes it all the worse.

Working for my ex-boyfriend? Sure. But falling for him again? That's a deal breaker. Dancing around my office in my bra isn't exactly the way I'd have chosen to run into my ex for the first time in 12 years, but what can I say? Wes Lake has always had a knack for showing up at the most inopportune times. Unfortunately, he also has a knack for leaving. That's why I've made every effort to put him out of my head - and my heart. But this time, he needs my help.

Another FMC helpless against her jerk ex that broke her heart
Revisado: 03-30-25
Yet another book where the FMC’s heart is totally broken by the MMC, he’s a complete jerk, and dumps her in an unforgivable way. Then years later he waltzes back into her life like he owns it, cocky and obnoxious with no apology or explanation. She has some mental struggle of how she shouldnt that lasts for all of 2 seconds then amounts to nothing. Because of course she can’t resist him— being in his magnificent presence is just too much and she turns into a helpless horny mess that tries to set some boundaries she can’t stick to and then throws herself at him. He does nothing to deserve her interest or attention.
Guy is unlikeable and girl is just too pathetic to get behind. I actually *didn’t want* them to get together. That’s a bad thing for a romance story.
DNF after 5 hrs
Narrators not my favorite but not the worst.
Female POV twice that of Male POV. 2 or 3 chapters of her for every one of him

Extra points for characters not being stupid.
Revisado: 03-30-25
They still do some dumb things, but usually when I’m expecting a scene to play out like it usually does in these books, it doesn’t. Ie: ex is trying to get back w MMC and I expect him to console her or allow her to get him alone and be too close hence allowing the FMC to catch him being touched and being hurt…INSTEAD: he refuses to go anywhere with her, says your problems aren’t mine, keeps backing up if the ex advances, doesn’t allow her to touch him, loudly proclaims he’s with the FMC. And I think YES!!! Finally!!!!
Or when I think one of the MC will continue to withdraw and push the other away thus allowing misunderstandings and hurt to fester…. They will unexpectedly open up and be honest and resolve whatever issue is happening. It’s SO refreshing.
But the books don’t come off as very deep and involved. You like the characters, they are cute and you root for them. They are good reads but I don’t mark them as favorites. Solid but not exceptional imo, but obviously many think they are.
Narrators are great, Narration is fairly evenly split—but fine in an interesting way. Part of every chapter is MMC and part is FMC. Probably slightly more F than M but not by much and it switches often enough i wouldn’t have noticed if I wasn’t particularly sensitive to it (I hate dual POV/narration books that turn out to be 90% FMC)

Maddox Lovelace. The captivating football player I met in college. The one I only knew for a week. A week that was...life-changing. Until my phone rang, and I had no choice but to go home. I left Maddox a letter, putting my feelings on paper, giving him my number, hoping he'd call. But he didn't call. He never called. He got drafted into the professional league and lived like a king while I stayed home and struggled to stay afloat.

What is wrong with these people?
Revisado: 03-27-25
They are supposed to be 35 and act like they are in junior high. The whole plot becomes ridiculous as everyone just refuses to grow up and, you know ASK A QUESTION! Seriously. I get how a college student could think it was a fool proof plan to write a note on some notebook paper and put it in a communal mailbox on a campus expecting it to get to who you want. But 15 yrs of resentment and hurt based on it?
And somehow she still thinks he did something wrong? Then then the miscommunication is revealed, it becomes “Why didn’t you look for me! You should have tried!” “well you didn’t either!” And on and on. Everyone wanting to blame someone else and cling to their righteous indignation.
Hey! Since we’ve all established no one wronged anyone, How about everyone just grow up apologize and move on? Ohhh no, of course not.
I just couldn’t do it anymore.
POVs we’re split pretty evenly but went back and forth way too fast . Frequently “chapters” were a sentence, a few seconds, sometimes just a few words. Then we have to listen to “chapter X, Maddox”. Maybe it works in print but it is incredibly annoying in audio form

Absolutely adorable and heartwarming
Revisado: 03-24-25
I only got this bc I needed another for a 2 for 1 but it’s going on my favorite list.
It’s so cute and so emotional despite there being no true external conflict. They battle their feelings and baggage. It’s one of those stories where they keep setting artificial limits where “they can’t be together” and I kept wanting to ask why? His feelings were so obvious- even verbalized, that after awhile she started to seem willfully ignorant and stubborn just so the book would keep going. Very adult people having internal tantrums “NO! I will NOT be happy!” That’s my only complaint. I kept wanting to shake them “snap out of it! There is NOTHING in your way!”
But it was full of heart warming and heart wrenching moments. I kept getting choked up. Their HEA was one of the most satisfying I’ve heard in a long time just bc of the authors gift for writing emotions.
There is slightly more F than M POV but it wasn’t ridiculous. Just sometimes when there were 2 or 3 back to back Fem. Chapters instead of alternating M/F
Samantha is my favorite female narrator. Although her voice can come be a bit too prim and proper sometimes, the deeper tone is pleasant to listen to and she’s one of few capable of doing male voices well. The male narrator was new to me and not my favorite at first—there was a certain vulnerable desperation to it (not the deep uber masculine tone most of these books go for). But the voice acting was great and for the character it ended up adding a realness and rawness that just made my heart ache for him.

One of my favorite love stories; both characters likeable; emotions and progression realistic
Revisado: 03-21-25
I have to say, this is one of my favorite love stories for the simple reason that it seems totally genuine, despite the age gap. It wasn’t creepy and seems to develop naturally, the emotions seem normal even though the situation is odd. The true attraction is based on affection and a bond that was heartwarming. A spark that is fanned with time, respect, and genuine caring.
It wasn’t a “I want to tear your clothes off” and everything builds off that.
Both characters are extremely likeable and sympathetic.
I expected her to be an annoying youngster, but she was great. Honest without verbal diarrhea. Mature without posturing. What “character flaws” she did have were age appropriate and not excessive. When she did what I thought was over-react, there was still a groundedness to it that wasn’t the “throwing the baby out with the bath water” type of thing these books often have.
His tortured hero self is explained well and seems not-manufactured
Both were able to control their words and actions (refreshing!)
Like all these stories they resist the real-ness of their obviously genuine relationship, which i never understand. But this time it wasn’t nearly annoying as it usually is. It seemed sad, not frustrating and baffling.
They still do confusing counter productive things. And, of course, repeatedly throw the temporary, fake thing at each other, hurting the other. They don’t mean to but the effect is obvious and they don’t address it most of the time.
The story is watching them struggle through their feelings and baggage but soldiering on, not sabotaging and blowing it up doing damage along the way
Parts were laugh out loud funny, other heartbreaking.
There was so much sexual tension you almost don’t realize how little sex there actually is. Lots and lots of heat, not many actual flames.
Narrators were among some of my favorites. POVs seemed pretty evenly split , thank g@d.

It’s hate to love; she’s terrible, doesn’t deserve him. I couldn’t finish.
Revisado: 03-21-25
I normally like this author but this one I couldn’t stand and didn’t make it more than 3 hours. The FMC was just so unlikeable. She was a colossal b!+€# at their “reunion” and she had no right to be. She’s one of those people that treats everyone like they are beneath her (I take that back, she truly believes they are) takes pride in treating them with derision, insulting them. Prides herself in being an ice queen. Resents his attractiveness. I’m sure if I kept listening she’d turn into a lovey dovey softie that falls in love, but I couldn’t stomach listening to hours of the MMC forgiving her shitty attitude and defending her—his continued obsession and pursuit of her in order to wear her down till she deigns to consider him.
Fingernails on chalkboard.
It’s very much a hate to love story and I would have avoided it if I’d realized that

When I found an eviction notice taped on my apartment door, I had two options: find a comfortable cardboard box to call home, or move in with Tucker Jameson. Seeing that cardboard makes me feel itchy, I chose the latter. Which shouldn't be that big of a deal since Tucker is one of my good friends. And because he's still pining after his ex-girlfriend and I'm trying to finish my nursing degree, there is nothing to worry about in the romance department, making my last semester an easy one to conquer. Ok but very juvenile
Revisado: 03-10-25
The dialogue, behavior and emotional IQ is about what you’d expect from highschool and college students in the current age.
There are a lot of weird visuals, lots of F word, and a lot of unapologetic verbal diarrhea.
The banter is funny but 1) it goes on too long. There’s always just a few exchanges too many 2) the amount of sexual references in those conversations is bizarre. It’s like there was a competition to see how many could be fit in each exchange. And it’s every. Single. One. And the way it’s done is weird. Like they don’t know any way they can illustrate their point and make analogies or comparisons other than with sexual and body part references. It’s disorienting.
Too much unnecessary sexual banter
But the MMC is adorable
